But to be fair, it only comes in close second in the list of books I had to read at school that I hated. The top of that list definitely makes Golding‘s Lord Of The Flies.

Thank you, white supremacist nazi terrorists of America, for robbing me of a good night‘s sleep, you fucking morons!Having said that: I‘m glad my friends living in the U.S. still live in a Country that can still somewhat be called a democracy. Now chase him out! With all shames!

🤣 ---RT @Cyber_CoxI've been doing network sniffing for years, and I've perfected it. Cat5 cables smell slightly plasticky. If they're plenum-rated, more so. Cat6, I've found, has a somewhat sweeter smell. Any shielded cable smells like pumpkins, I believe due to the material used.https://twitter.com/Cyber_Cox/status/1352485205131583492

OK, #blind #Linux enthusiasts: If I have a VMware Workstation running on Windows 10 at my disposal and want to use it to install a Linux distro just to play with it a bit and get a feel for the current state of accessibility, which distribution do you recommend? Which desktop? GNOME, KDE, MATE? Something else? Go! :-)#noxp

Sheesh, I cannot believe how hard it is to get stuff to work in Linux even when following instructions. No matter what I try to touch, nothing works anywhere. Yes, Orca talks to me in Ubuntu Mate, but that's about it.For example: Tried to get Emacspeak to work. Have the Voxin Eloquence thingie installed. Told Emacspeak that I had. But it will not work. It will only work with eSpeak. Orca finds the Voxin voice via Speech Dispatcher. But Emacspeak won't.#noxp

@libreoffice StarWriter on a C64. StarWriter on Windows 3.11, StarOffice until 4.2 later, then OpenOffice via Sun Java Access Bridge, then watched the transition of Symphony to IAccessible2, followed the LibreOffice project loosely since its inception. Now wanting to get more involved with its accessibility.

You may have heard of #accessibe, an overlay that claims to make the web more accessible to screen reader users. I won't go into the details of what kind of scam this is, but be assured that you don't want this thing to interfere with your web experience if you're a screen reader user. Some good soul has now put up a page with instructions for various browsers and operating systems on how to block Accessibe from interfering woth your web experience. Go here: https://sclower.github.io/accessibegone/ #noxp

I just found this piece by @devinprater about formatting for the blind. And it reminded me of older formatting techniques we had in MS-DOS that were also more accessible than the WYSIWYG stuff in graphical interfaces. Reveal codes in WordPerfect, or the dot commands in WordStar. We had full control over this stuff; and then came Windows. #noxpgemini://tilde.pink:1965/~devinprater/gemlog/blindness/text-formatting-for-the-blind.gmi

@weirdwriter I am working with the @delta team to make Delta more acessible, especially on the desktop. The iOS app is great, I don't know about the Android app since I don't use Android, but the desktop app has some challenges. If you look through recent issues there, you'll find mine.

Sigh, sometimes I wish Reaper didn't have such a steep learning curve. Or maybe it's my depression and/or progressing age. Anyway I feel like after not having used it for a few weeks or months, which currently does happen, I have to learn it all over again. That's... frustrating. Didn't have that much of a problem when I was still using SoundForge on Windows, or Amadeus Pro on Mac.

@talon Thanks for that offer! I do have the ReaProducer podcast episodes all archived for re-listening. But having to actually do that if I want to get back into the software is somehow...Frustrating. I don't know what it is that is so at odds between me and that software. But on Windows, I feel I really have no choice, with Soundforge not working with NVDA.

@libreoffice Here‘s to hoping that some of that government funding can be committed to fixing some long-standing platform accessibility bugs in LibreOffice that are plaguing users on the various platforms and seriously hamper productivity. Would love to use it more, but run into obstacles too often, and don‘t have the personal resources to dive in and provide fixes myself unfortunately. But many of these are needed if LO is to be used in government offices anyway. So here‘s hoping.

And sometimes, the simple solution to an accessibility bug in VS @code is to use simple HTML markup and forget all about the WAI-ARIA magic. Yours truly.https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/132829#issuecomment-987562782

Very happy that @FreedomSci fixed reading of the Windows 11 emoji and clipboard history panels in the December update of JAWS 2022.Also, that new feature to show the current time in the status cells of a Braille display for discrete tracking is very well done. 👍🏼

I should have listened to y‘all. My machine didn‘t take well to the upgrade to Windows 11. Initially, everything seemed to work. But after a few days, I hit a BSOD twice while editing audio in Reaper. Now it‘s roll-back time. And that means a fresh install of Windows 10, not 11.

It is sad to see that a #privacy friendly service like @protonmail that does a lot of things in the open is not maintaining its presence on the #fediverse right now. Instead, they encourage users to find them on the data sucking #birdsite in their bio. I hope with the #twittermigation, their view changes and they reactivate their #fediverse account and communicate with users of their service here.
