@cplater @adam It looks like something's triggering the duplicate detection. Looking into it now.

@cplater @adam Ran out of time to figure it out at the moment, so I did a dumb workaround. It's there now. Sorry about that.

Me too. But it's not Tumblr that changed — it's us.That entire 2006–2010-era internet doesn't exist anymore. The web itself is hanging on for dear life. Everyone went to social networks, mobile, and video.https://mastodon.social/@freediverx/112768575777557734

David and I were extremely conscious of the rise of Facebook in Tumblr's early days, and specifically designed it NOT to want or display your real name anywhere. It was in direct response to that trend. We wanted Tumblr to be a place where you could write as whoever you wanted to be, with no forced associations with people you knew in "real life" and no discoverable links to your “real" identity.Anonymity isn't without its issues, but people need outlets like that.https://mastodon.social/@tofugolem/112763842723365044

The App Store's alleged "protection" of its users from scammy apps has always had a huge blind spot when the scams are paying Apple their IAP cut, and therefore making Apple a lot of money.Intentional? Maybe, maybe not.But it sure happens a lot for it to be an honest mistake.https://mastodon.social/@lapcatsoftware/114389493032695580

I don't think Apple *intends* to let abusive subscription scams stay in the App Store to make more money. But this has been a problem for so many years, with no obvious progress being made to fix it, that their inaction speaks volumes, whether it's their intention or not.

There is no “safety in numbers” with Apple’s IAP demands — at least not until you're the size of Uber/Meta.The entire market of podcast apps outside of Apple/Spotify is peanuts to Apple. They’d crush us all without a second thought if they thought we weren't giving them every cent they *deserve* (in their view) for graciously enabling our businesses to exist (in their view) that provide zero value to their platform beyond fees we pay (in their view).Tim Cook is greathttps://bne.social/@james/114345835921533046

There is no winning with narcissists like Trump. All Tim Cook bought with his million bucks was a brief placation, and it cost his and Apple’s reputations dearly.Another short-sighted, short-term move that failed to read the room, at the expense of long-term brand value. Forget “owning primary technologies” — THAT’s the real Cook Doctrine.Cook chose poorly, again.https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/26/technology/techs-trump-whisperer-tim-cook-goes-quiet-as-his-influence-fades.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

This is a core system app interrupting you, promoting a sale by a movie-ticketing company, to push you to go see the platform vendor’s new movie. Why not just pop up random ads all the time, always creating new channels that everyone’s opted-into by default so you can never keep up with opting out of them all?Oh wait, that’s already what happens.Apple’s as bad as everyone else. They don’t respect their customers — we’re fodder. They truly have no standards anymore.https://mastodon.social/@caseyliss/114738626109660386

I recently read this: https://www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgive-them/It’s long. Very long. And not every example is perfect. And it’s also, broadly, very right about what tech has become.

True. But that's true of every big fandom.Google's been doing *wildly* unethical things for years, and most nerds never called them out because they made great tech, it worked well, and we liked the nerdy ethos that the founders had.Like Apple, that ethos left a long time ago, but it's hard for us to stop believing it. We *want* to believe, because we're fans!https://urusai.social/@nazokiyoubinbou/114739279452257744

As we head into iPhone-event week, let's celebrate the hard work by all of the people who made these products happen. And let's not forget the shameless Trump-suckass CEO at the top, who constantly gives the middle finger to everyone in his own company, and the very foundations of our country, that this administration is actively committing violence and waging war against.https://mastodon.green/@gcluley/115162918845987945

Glad to see Apple's leaders showing so much courage.I'm sure their founders, and the historical heroes they love to quote on their homepage on important dates, would've been so proud of the courage and values they practice today.https://www.theverge.com/news/791170/iceblock-app-store-removed-by-apple

Are any of you still thinking Tim Cook is just doing what he "needs" to do, throwing his own reputation under the bus as a selfless act to protect a larger social well-being, rather than literally just *supporting* the Trump regime because the political favors he negotiates help his company make even more money? Can we all finally see it now?Would anyone bend over backwards so far to try to excuse this behavior for anyone else, or any other company, performing the same actions that Cook has?
