@maegul @tchambers @fediversereport @jdp23 @spla @fediverse @fediversenews @spreadmastodon Sure, these waves have overloaded even not-that-big instances, causing them to close registration for a time. From September, the number of servers has increased by 3.If we had a historical of the server picture, would be really interesting to trace the movements and evolution of the Fediverse…

@ricci Nice analysis! In my experience, when looking into users things are more centralized than when considering servers.

@jdp23 @ricci Yeah! I tried to apply network decentralization analysis, which are used also in ecology and immunology to analyze the Fediverse decentralization. It was when Musks waves started. As far as I remember, when comparing two time points the Fediverse was gaining decentralization rather than losing it (the hypothesis is that too much people was landing into mastodon.social). I think that that data also suggested a centralization in terms of the software used. The post I shared in SH: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/analysis-of-fediverse-diversity-in-terms-of-decentralization/3252/7

@compl4xx @jaseg @delta And they rely on the cloud provider in availability, as recently stated. That dependency is a huge thing for me, specially because when you build your network in one side is very dificult to move unless the channels are redundant.
