As the series of pictures of wildflowers of the US Southwest gets close to its conclusion, I'm saving the best entries for the end. For the 28th entry I am showing the mountain sky pilot (palemonium viscosum). This flower can be found only in the top of the Rockies, high above the tree line. The picture was taken in July 2014 on White Mountain in Crested Butte, CO at over 4000m (13,000 feet) elevation.

One notorious exception to that is the Inuit population, which despite being stuck in the far North for many centuries, didn't lose the dark tones and are dependent on a diet that is rich in fish for that. It turns out that their very non-diverse gene pool is to blame for that.
