@mttaggart It's a fair enough distinction, but I think there are some arguments actually:Mozilla can only fulfill its mission of providing an open alternative browser and establishing open internet standards if it makes sure FF and other alternatives retain significant market share. Otherwise Google will just adhere to their own protocols for Chrome more than they already do and make FF etc obsolete (i.e. *not* a real alternative), because FF etc just won't work with most websites.1/x

@mttaggart Also, for Mozilla, retaining FF market share is vital for their survival because one of their main sources of income, if not *the* main source, is from search engine providers. They get paid for having a particular search engine be the default. Without market share, that source of income is gone.2/x

@mttaggart Losing FF market share for Mozilla starts a downward spiral, where they get less income due to losing market share, which causes them to fire FF developers, which makes FF fall further behind and lose even more market share.3/x

@mttaggart Regarding why we don't care so much about market share for the fediverse: first of all, we kind of do, right? The utopic vision would be to have everyone on some kind of open source website that federates via ActivityPub.Other than that: the fediverse is *not* subject to the same vicious cycle I sketched above. The fediverse software doesn't automatically get worse if the proprietary competitors get more dominant. As long as the Fediverse sticks to ActivityPub, we're fine.4/4

I find it so sad how many people get tricked by #Mozilla splitting into a non-profit and a for-profit. When #OpenAI pulled the same bullshit everyone saw right through that. But with Mozilla? Everything good.So they put the extremely profitable part into a for-profit, and this for-profit pays the CEOs salary and increases it drastically to 7M$ while firing 25% of the work force. At the same time, the non-profit Mozilla foundation is still asking for donations 🤡

"If we manage to raise 3.3 Million $ with your donations now, we'll increase our CEO's salary to 9 million next year."Imagine donating to Mozilla 🤡

I gotta say, #Flathub looks really neat nowadays. It really has the potential to become the one-stop-shop for installing GUI apps on virtually all Linux distros.I think someone recently posted that #Flatpak also passed the test-of-time, as they had managed to install a flatpak app from 2016 on a recent OS with no issues.

As someone who has been doing "AI" professionally for 10 years now and really believes in its potential, I've been quite bummed about how much people on Fedi hate it.But I've just set foot outside academia for the first time and heard a keynote talk about AI in an industry meeting and it was so fucking dumb that I left early, angrily. The most insane brain rot bullshit I ever came across. Now I understand why people outside academia hate it so much.#AI #ML #MachineLearning

@cryptgoat really cool indeed. For us, proabably not good news for all the game devs employed by the big studios..

@cryptgoat strange.. my experience is so different, it's been rock solid for me, just like the previous releases. Do you have an nvidia gpu and not the latest drivers installed? That made a big difference for me some time ago.
