Just as an aside, regarding what's been happening here.TLDR1.I messaged my landlord (L1) asking for a new rent contract as we are doing a VISA run in December and so would need a new contract in January to get our new resident's visa.2. He messaged back saying that the owner of the property (O1) was bringing his son from France to try living in Egypt and that we had 2 months to vacate.3. We spent a week looking at properties and finally found one out of our price range but, just as we were about to put in an offer, an apartment across the complex from us came on the market, next door to our landlord. We had an offer accepted, the owner (O2) came into country, we were ready complete and on that day the owner came to the complex and spoke to other owners who informed her that the complex was being bought by a large hotel group and she would make more by selling to them. SALE CANCELLED4. Another 2 weeks looking at properties, most unsuitable. Found one, loved it. Not 100% perfect (no easy outside access for cats). Similar price to the one in current complex. Price agreed. Lawyers reinstructed. Issue with documents (previous owners, 1 dead, will invalid).5. Way around is to purchase through the company who own the new complex. Additional money required, paid, new contracts signed by us, seller (O3) signs over the property. Company will not sign the contract for a week, as the guy has to come from Cairo to do so. O3 still wants his money. Our lawyer says no. We heed advice. O3 goes quiet.6. We transfer money from UK to Egypt, having 2 transactions cancelled and a day of bank systems not working, then we hit the weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun - Islam/Judaism/Christian) when nothing happens. Exchange rate drops, not enough money to make the final purchase.7. We are now expecting to sign the final contracts tomorrow and transfer funds. An emergency SWIFT payment went overnight on Sunday and will hopefully arrive here today.8. Awaiting call from the bank as we have requested a decent rate for the £->$ exchange, not the crap one they gave us the other day.9. Once done, we will go to the bank, move the GBP to USD to the outstanding amount, then come home, swim and have another sleepless night before tomorrow's (hopefully) finale.10. We then arrange the move, simple compared to the rest of this. We should be sleeping in the new place on Wednesday night if everything goes ok.MEANWHILE ...11. The owner (O1) of the current property has contacted us via O2 and offered to continue to rent, or sell our current place to us. A month ago we would have ripped their arm off for it.12. Our neighbours each side had been told to vacate (2 weeks after us) but can now stay.13. Last night, and this morning, friends were refused vehicular access to the compound as the compound owners apparently are refusing access. Methinks it's BIG HOTEL trying to squeeze the other compound owners to sell out, as L1 did with his 4 (keeping up?).As a huge believer in karma, the reason these things have been happening starts to become clear. We're best off out of this mess and the quality of the new place and area is light years beyond this derelict hotel that we live in now.Photos will help illustrate the difference.Just hoping now that all goes smoothly today/tomorrow.

@moffintosh It didn't go smoothly. None of it,But we've just hitting the 1 month mark in our own property.It's been a challenge setting in, although the swimming here is fantastic.Winter's coming, but we may still be able to swim until the end of January, if only the wind would drop a little.There are challenges to the new place that differ from the previous, but I think that in the end karma has moved us in a direction that we needed to go.The Landlord has gone missing. Karma's doing it's work on him also, by the sounds of things.I still need to post there and here photos as I promised, but for now, here's the sunset at the (private) beach a week ago when some friends from the old place came to visit.#Egypt
