@SplitShockVirus It's a large house with 2 stories and a finished basement. As for budget, I'm used to going middle-of-the-road. Mesh might be OK, but isn't it expensive? There are 6 wired devices + 9-or-so wireless devices + 1 computer on a powerline adapter. I want good coverage, but especially in certain areas. Good speed is OK, doesn't have to be 'high'. Reliability is more important.Right now I have a DIR-1750 router on the main floor and a DAP-1530 range extender upstairs.

@SplitShockVirus I have my 'office' upstairs at the far end of the house; just as far as you can get from the wireless router, hence the extender. I have both bands enabled, so I expect I've been using 2.4GHz up there.Yes I own the house, but I've never run cable in walls before. I have a friend who is an electrian, though, so maybe he can help.

@SplitShockVirus I have slow speeds for the most part. We've also been having problems lately with the connection dropping, but I'm diagnosing that. I guess I just really want a more reliable connection up in my office. I have the extender more-or-less above the router and I've run some ribbon ethernet cable across the ceiling to my office, but it's still not good.

@syscrashI'm not offended. I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'proof'. I'm more than satisfied with the evidence available to me. If you mean some kind of empirical test, then there are a lot of things you can't 'prove', including most of history, even written history.
