Why does Nextcloud talk not simply support the matrix protocol and call it day? Treat it like caldav or carddav. Otherwise they have to maintain a bunch of chat apps, it will be expensive and not necessarily better than what is being built and maintained on matrix.

@mr_daemon not sure if arousal is the aimed for response but I have been running my small server for 2 whole weeks and it has been 100% painless so far. It's more a relay than a server, it just passes messages along. You can use a **tiny** machine to serve thousands of users. Only thing you might need to add is more hdd for messages being held for secondary devices.my relay is open for anyone to use here: https://danneskjold.de
