@ndegruchy @gxtony yea most distros have the old version surprisingly, they distribute reborn on container systems though if you use them.

@jordan31 near the end of April, their main build server went down and is still down as of this toot, pending final changes before going back up, and is the reason why new and still-supported devices aren't showing updates or initial builds. If you were to build from source however like @cooper probably did, you can still receive all the updates they pushed until then, but since your OnePlus has been dropped pending an official maintainer it wouldn't make a difference in this case.

@ndegruchy[1/2] 1.) No, I haven't conveniently forgotten about these tried and true technologies, amongst others you haven't even mentioned.2.) Snaps I feel is an utter failure, and Canonical's force push of it just drives the point home, so I agree there.3.) ...and Flatpaks / Snaps don't keep up to date with security patches? You obviously don't know how the ecosystem works or probably think Flathub / Snap Store are defacto repositories for representing this.

@stuts https://www.unihertz.com/shop/product/titan-39I was considering this, it even has postmarketOS running among other things, but it's been many years since I've used a full keyboard device and my fingers won't do the job anymore, even if I'm on the smaller side of average.

@yarmo yeah, but it's not just Linus so I don't mind it at all, gaming YouTube is probably the best many can do. I've got a userstyle to darken the thumbnails with a WATCHED since YT started introducing watch length history which drove my OCD bonkers beforehand hehe, but I fully understand if one doesn't use the website and can't discern these name changes from new videos.

@bartleby @danny while an invalid reason to ignore a distribution (especially one such as this which has more elbow grease poured into it than Ubuntu), Manjaro currently does the same albeit with aftermarket hardware, so both would be ignored in this case.

@bartleby @danny precisely, there's literally no correlation between what a company decides to do with their hardware and software divisions, and the upstream support from said software benefits everyone. Valid reasons on the other hand include shoddy maintainers, history of bad security practises, attached EULAs, common sense correlated with target audiences and lack of either strong corporate or community support. You can still hold your boycott but as a recommendation it's not valid

@ataraxia937 Well yeah, you're supposed to run your own server then exporting would be the same as Keepass, so it's not really a fair comparison, because using their server would be comparable with all other non-hosted password managers instead of ones based on Keepass. Naturally depending on use case and feasibility, you'd have to weigh your options if you'd prefer always having an offline copy with redundancy backups or a server with backups.

@ataraxia937 100% agree on snap and Ubuntu, but disagree on flatpak and Fedora (and by extension appimages used effectively) as you seem to only have a filtered word-of-mouth opinion on the matter. These alone aren't making the Linux world buggy in the slightest, but I detest Canonical for putting the majority of new and old users alike at the helm of their terrible pet projects which they'll scrap in the end eventually but not before leaving a mark. Prime example of rotten apple in the pile.

@amolith @ataraxia937 @bartleby lol that's not how it works. Those software that only distribute via containers are doing so for early testing purposes, and this ensures the developer a consistent environment with all other machines whilst isolating potentially problematic areas for safety. Once they reach a certain point, those software get distributed by most binary distros as they should, because they're regular programs that don't need "extrication".

@fatboy Reminder that systemd defaults are generally assumed to be changed by distros downstream (and sane ones do) which is very conservative, like journald not having a persistent log by default. Please don't be part of that group that slanders systemd on misconceived reasons or from ignorance.

@soul_predator great as always, but after getting the PS4 (and every prior console they've ever made) that was my last one. I'm not a fan of their censorship policies that seem harsher than Nintendo's of all companies, and I'm more drawn to the games on Nintendo these days + I've picked up PC gaming and emulation seriously now which warrants it moot for me apart from the exclusives, but even then a lot of PS exclusives are starting to head to PC anyways.

@TheFuzzStone this post is hedged on the previous toot here by @ataraxia937 and is straight up attacking Poettering at this point. I know all these users who both replied to the top comments and in GitHub (Discord server: Linux Café) and even though I've called out resynth for inciting a hateful response from Poettering on purpose, no body seems to care and continues on this tirade that's wholly irrelevant in the grand scheme and puts everyone in a bad light. This is sickening.

@richardotomislav @xair @soul_predator nah RPCS3 is exceptionally good, and it's actually mindboggling how the devs figured out the cell architecture to reverse engineer it so quickly while many game devs with documentation couldn't.

@richardotomislav @soul_predator hehe yeah, I really enjoy the franchise and while I wouldn't call it the straw the breaks the camel's back, it's still a solid platformer that stays mostly fresh.

@Dignz by itself nothing, but it's a trust and integrity issue with the company, as this move paints them to one of an extremely greedy nature. There's other issues like whitelisting certain domains for blocking and injecting http headers they've done and the gradual introduction of ads throughout the browser that should rather be the focus of the avoidance of Brave.
