@lain Hey, I already started coming up with a clever retort — something about looking for a less expensive alternative to this 'Pleroma' thing, but decided to check the posts quoting yours first :marseysmirk:

@light I think considering yourself useful is one of so-called self-fulfilment goals — part of what makes you happy.

@condret @Nudhul @nerthos @light I think the core event occurred a bit earlier when during Occupy protests political establishment realised that income inequality problem could unite the majorities from both camps: conservatives and progressives, bringing them together — so instead of addressing this core issue, every group was given a good old set of permanently unsolvable problems instead. But, they were such topics that the other group would certainly not support or even show some resistance to: to the right those were immigration and the fact that their tax money gets "wasted" on social programs, and to the left those were minorities and support for marginalised groups.Progressive agenda was always mostly economic, it was about giving marginalised groups a fair chance at employment and being fairly rewarded for their work, not about giving minorities this caricaturesque boost, setting them against the majority — and most of the people in the majority of course had personally nothing to with their woes and are equally powerless. And yet this is exactly what we got! I've seen a post, I think it was on Bluesky — someone suggested moving the focus away from minorities and revisiting the economic agenda: remember, there was this "class war" thing? It received thousands of replies in the vein: "No, I'm not giving up on my trans-sisters, you Nazi!" — I've never seen so much filth addressed even at those who literally have a swastika tattooed on their chest, people were getting trained for years to treat those who simply want to look beyond the problem of minorities and look at the bigger picture — as enemies.I doubt that this setting people against each other is just a coincidence, but I agree with you, this "gamergate" thing was instrumental in pushing people, younger people in particular, to the right and radicalising them.

@light I believe that this is middleware for Lantern — so it could make use of those residential IPs, this is the part that keeps running in volunteer's browser and accepts incoming connections.I've seen it before, but never tried it myself. Besides, my end would probably be Lantern, not unbounded :marseysmirk:

@sj_zero Well, people stopped using libraries and then even printed dictionaries and encyclopedias in favour of search engines, although the results are often inaccurate, biased and not quite what they want…There is certainly a limit to how inefficient and unreliable things can be, but we aren't there yet :marseyshrug:

@taylan @mrsaturday I think this might be automated — if they receive a certain amount of reports, they send you this without even reviewing it and if you don't appeal then you obviously don't care, and so do they.

@xaetacore @N33R Dendrite is surprisingly easy to set up if you choose that — not sure about Synapse and Conduit.I still don't know how to purge old files in media storage though — but I don't have too many friends and they don't send me too many photos, so for now I'm safe :marseyemojismilemoutheyes:

@light I think the utility of normalising this in social media is underestimated, it's a nice thought experiment. Their game works only when those whom they view as peasants keep playing by the rules, and they consider themselves some sort of aristocracy that should not be restricted by any.But a good principle is a waste when it's not applied universally, so what if he's not that, but rubbish?First of all, it's very egalitarian — if I manage to dismember his children, then I'm worthy, right? Then it's only fair to end his bloodline — why waste resources on an evolutionary dead end like him? And of course it's very NOT woke! Then there is this Jaydee Vance creature. Ugh, if it's not the perfect depiction of the word "degenerate", I don't know what is. He doesn't even wear Vans — what a fake useless fuck! Jared Kushner… even the most devout Trump supporters likely consider that thing genetic garbage — the world would be a better place without it!The Bible says that children should not be held responsible for the sins of their fathers, buy you know who LOVED quoting that? Stalin! And we do not want damn communism!Although I wouldn't mind if someone skinned Stalin's granddaughter alive — she's probably stupid anyway: living in the US, not enjoying the fruits of her grandfather's genius in Russia.Well, something like that. I think I should start a crowdfunding campaign for botnet to start spreading some of these bright ideas on Twatter — this crowd deserves to be aggressive in the right direction instead of "Hurr durr, the Jews" on the Internet :marseytroublemaker:

@zaire This was just a riposte to @lain 's sarcasm about European Alternatives list, usually these lists indeed have products and services which are, often due to more modest scale, are a bit more expensive than more mainstream US-based ones. But this one happened to also list Pleroma — Lain's own brainchild :marseyemojismilemouthtighteyes: Also, I believe Pleroma's and GTS requirements are more or less the same, especially when it comes to backend — the difference is likely negligible if any. I already use snac2 for my other instance — this one you can indeed run even on a 10 y.o. smart teapot.

@kirby I think this is how test-driven development works: first you come up with a test for a function, then you implement it and the test start passing.Except in your case it's not the test, but the main body of your program.
