Flashed a new Ubuntu image on an old Raspberry Pi 3 I had lying around, plugged it into the network this morning and it is incredibly sluggish. Turns out unattended-upgrades quietly uses up most of it's resources as soon as it has an internet connection...Annoying that it's doing all sorts of updates without prompting.

@person Unfortunately I don't think they support my current Pi version! I did a quick look and it seems only Pi 4's are supported. Otherwise Manjaro would have been my choice! (using it right now on my main machine)

@TheFuzzStone What's your opinion on Monero? I have only really been aware of it for a few months and it sounds a bit better as an actual currency than some other crypto

@joeligj12 Not tried on straight Windows yet as pass works on the Linux subsytem, how come you did not use pass' git integration?

@TheFuzzStone So after deliberation I decided to buy XMR on Binance a few days ago. I have been UNABLE to withdraw it to my actual wallet since signing up. I really should have used another platform 😠

@TheFuzzStone So limiting passwords length can make sense on a server side to prevent denial of service attacks but it should be a much higher limit than 16 (we're talking at least 32 characters more like 100+)

@TheFuzzStone It's a bit mad. I mean my Brick and Mortar bank limits passwords to less than 16 characters I think which is mad. NIST recommend long passwords over complex ones, and UK's Cyber Security Centre the same:

@pleiades @Omega9 Rainbow OCP logo makes me smile the most, just remembering the scene where ED obliterates the guy in board room and one of the investors (I think) basically just says: "I'm very disappointed." captures the essence of an uncaring megacorp.

@codesections Only where it makes sense. In previous years I avoided it more but it has its place. What I can't stand is when people build a system and add in loads of weird operators to make it more terse. What the result often looks like to an outsider is incomprehensible...

@kev @mike @cooper Honestly use whatever you like. Basically "you do you" is the default attitude people have for most things. I am sure you'll get a couple of die hard people irrationally angry but honestly it's your choice of OS not theirs 🤷 I know I am actively trying to spend more time using Linux but that's me. I have struggled with crappy install problems plenty of time on various Linux distros (even on servers) so can understand the frustrations.

@TheFuzzStone You mean collected bio-metrics can be used for bad things? 😲Tech is generally agnostic in terms of ethics but more thought needs to be put into its potential bad use. People are too quick to hand wave away such issues with "Oh we don't do that." Ignorant that things change; that includes them.

@TheFuzzStone A lot of people are so scared they will happily relinquish their rights for a sense of security.I say this as someone who has had COVID and been vaccinated. The idea of coercing people into complying is frankly much more terrifying than any virus. I can't imagine living in a world where, at a moments notice, you can be shut in your homes and deprived of your rights. It doesn't matter how deadly the threat; nations have been founded, and wars fought for such simple freedoms.
