@BrodieOnLinux @monster it's a big difference when you have extra features/protocols, and when you rely on them so much that without them your app is unusable. And the latter hasn't really been the case so far yet.App indicators for example usually are only an extra feature. So this core/minimum protocol should be a standard, the rest doesn't need to be, maybe that's what you call a "community standard".But it must remain optional.Still people complain about everything, even if the core works

@BrodieOnLinux @monster because having a minimal core standard is just better for the whole ecosystem. There's not just gnome, KDE and sway, but anyone can write a Wayland compositor, and wouldn't it be bad if you first need to implement dozens of extra Wayland protocols, because all the apps pick the features they depend on and it's a huge mess and all over the place? And yes, imo it should be definitely avoided to have apps that use app indicators as the only method of user interaction

I want to create a space in #GNOME for exchanging information and ideas about organizing workshops and other events, and onboarding new contributors to such activities. Here are past events that could be scaled up to other regions around the world, and that could serve as a starting point to develop more ideas:https://pesader.dev/posts/1st-contribution-hackathon/ by @pesaderhttps://discourse.gnome.org/t/empowering-students-with-open-source-literacy-a-session-by-gnome-nepal/26671Who would be interested? I would love to have more of these activities, and I think they are really important for the project!

Doing marketing on #Mastodon is so fucking much work. In almost a year, I couldn't even double the follower count of @vala_lang (now almost 1k)And engagement is still not that much. Rarely there are replies to our posts. We are not a business, we don't want growth growth growth, we just want to build our own small community in the fediverse. Isn't that what it is meant for?Without a community the project will die. #Vala is an open source project like many others.I need a break.

@BrodieOnLinux @vala_lang yes, probably. I know what kind of content will be boosted here, but sadly crafting such is not easy. Especially in this case, since I mostly only take things from other places and communication platforms. Vala is a relatively small project, so often there is not much activity. It really is work to often pull out something when there is nothing going on. Because you want to keep new content regularly.

Something I recently observed on youtube:when a video is loading, and you switch to another tab (unfocus), suddenly the youtube video stops loading and starts playing. (at least for a very short moment)The audio from it distracts you enough and since you don't want to miss the video playing you instinctively switch back. This should be illegal.#google #youtube #illegal

@BrodieOnLinux its very easy to try out, whenever a video is loading, switch to another tab and listen if it suddenly starts playing for a moment.

@BrodieOnLinux if you have a slow enough connection it would load right again.

I think I will switch to ecosia as a search engine soon, as I learned today that they started to use their new self-hosted search index. I did a simple test and got soo much better results than any other search engine already.https://www.heise.de/en/news/Ecosia-and-Qwant-launch-web-search-via-European-index-10513567.html
