@JLW_the_Jobber May I ask why you chose #ArchLinux and also why you chose #Debian? I like hearing from more experienced people. :)I'm about six months in. So far, I have:- #Bodhi on a slightly older machine- Arch in #WSL2 on my main machine, which I never use because it still feels like I'm on #WindowsI'd really like to blow away #Windows but can't until I graduate. So I'm thinking of a dual boot with Arch but open to suggestions.

@bohemianchic I was kicked out of a vegan group because I asked them to stop picking on someone, and they took it badly lol.(I eventually reverted back to vegetarian anyway.)I felt similarly in a covid-safety group. After lockdowns ended, I visited a close relative who lived alone, but kept it secret from the group. Some of them were my friends, but I'd already witnessed how ferociously judgemental they were towards others, so I wasn't confident they would understand my choices.

The Crown owns all minerals in my state, including on private land. So if I strike oil (in the suburbs... lol), it won't even be mine.I'm irrationally annoyed at this extremely unlikely scenario. I think it's because the so-called Crown already possesses a bunch of stuff they shouldn't.If they showed up here to get my oil, you'd better believe I'd chase them away with this traditional chasing-away implement.

@Wolven I've started watching this; I'm really grateful to have access to the knowledge of academics like yourself.I'm almost done with a Master of Data Science, and the biases in AI were only really discussed during one subject. It's an elective, so the people who didn't choose it will graduate with no exposure to this topic at all.

I recently worked with someone with 10 years' experience in #RStats who thinks dependency management doesn't matter. He didn't even think it was worthwhile to just ensure we were all using the same versions of things.I don't get it. It took me mere months to break an R script by carelessly updating packages - how did this guy make it to a decade with no mishaps?

@underlap Good question! I'm not sure. The one time a version change caused a problem for me, the script failed crankily. Then I became more careful and it hasn't happened since. So I haven't seen enough mishaps to know if some "silent but deadlies" sneak through. :)

My parents were immigrants from India. I'm a pro-choice woman. Some Trump voters have said indefensible things about Indians - and women - in recent months. But other Trump voters are ordinary punters who behave well online. You might not like it, but Mastodon is for them, too.

@stfn I live in Australia. I can confirm the spider situation is f..ked. I'm terrified of them but I pay pest control to spray our house once a year as a preventative. Otherwise I'd be a ball of anxiety.Australian life is a montage of heart-racing spider incidents, interspersed with fat little koalas chewing gum leaves.
