I think it's time for a new logo for PHP.

@aumetra "management asking us to 'keep the corporate diversity targets in mind'[...]I knew in my heart this wasn't wholesome, but I was too scared to rock the boat at the time."This is not racist. This is not a conspiracy theory. This is a perfectly valid way to share a personal experience and opinion. You don't have to agree with his opinion. You may vehemently disagree, but slandering someone who is giving his free time to the world based on this is bullshit.

@kiri @aumetra To slander someone is to make "false and damaging statements" about them, which is precisely what is happening here by falsely implying that he is a believer of a "racist conspiracy theory" (white replacement theory) because he respectfully criticized affirmative action at Apple in a tweet.

@kiri @aumetra Discrimination is the "unfair or prejudicial treatment of people and groups" based on "protected" characteristics such as race. Affirmative action is, depending on beliefs and definitions, definitively discriminatory, and it is an organized effort. Discriminate != expel. No, he's not making it seem like he believes in white replacement theory.(Fun fact: White people seem to be slightly underrepresented in the US tech industry with ~75% vs ~63%.)

@kimapr @lizzy insulting normal people isn't legal in germany either (StGB § 185 Beleidigung).insulting officers just tends to result in higher fines (which somewhat makes sense: these people are generally forced by the government into situations where they are more likely to be insulted as they exercise governmental authority, so why shouldn't the government afford them some additional protection via stricter laws).

@kimapr @lizzy Yes, the premise behind having a government and officers is that it exercises some amount of authority. It is rather unreasonable to expect the government to establish an authority just to immediately undermine it by affording it fewer legal protections.Governments aren't fair, but they're generally more fair than what happens when you don't have them.

@lizzy @kimapr there is no blanket check. take Pimmelgate for example. a judge ultimately ruled it to be illegal and disproportionate. (tbh there should probably have been some compensation after that ruling; then again idk if there were significant damages to be compensated)https://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/57701/did-germany-prosecute-one-of-its-citizens-for-calling-a-politician-a-dick-on-twi

@kaia Source? Sure, that's one way it can be done, and that's apparently how it is done when you go to dm. Doesn't mean that it has to be done this way.

@kaiaOkay, this puts your claim into perspective. It's not as extreme ("without complying you cannot get a new passport or ID card") - there is an alternative. This is the option I used to take my photo last time I had to get my ID in Bonn.

@kaia Furthermore, a very important detail: The image is stored *encrypted* on AWS. It can - using current technical capabilities - only be accessed using the key, which along with the URL is stored in the QR code.So all in all, given that there usually is an acceptable alternative (on-site photo booths) that avoids cloud uploads altogether, and that images are stored encrypted on AWS servers, I see no big reason for panic here.

@kaia I see, that's unfortunate. Might there be a photographer in your area that also offers this service?Otherwise I'd probably just bite the bullet and have my (encrypted) photo stored on AWS.

@cy that's a common mistake, happened to me some years ago as well 🙃 we have some supplemental documentation at https://docs.luanti.org that warns about this and some other things, often a good idea to check that out (esp. when something isn't working as expected): https://docs.luanti.org/for-creators/api/classes/voxelarea/#areaindexx-y-zpart of the reason for these rough edges is that VoxelManip-related APIs need to be very performance-conscious and thus skip some validation. might be a good idea to have some kind of "debug" mode for them.

@cy There seems to be some brief mention in lua_api.md (e.g. on `VoxelArea:index(p)`), but it is easy to overlook; perhaps you missed them. This section of the docs is being touched again, we'll try to make it more clear.I'm not saying it's necessarily as performant as we'd want it to be (there are still some limits stemming e.g. from the use of Lua), but it might be even less performant if it did try to do proper validation in a hot path :p

@dalias No, we should not.Open formats with high quality open implementations should be judged by their merit. This includes concerns over future maintenance and direction of projects, as well as the cost of switching standards - regardless of whether something is by big tech or not.Open source should not be stuck on suboptimal standards just because, quite literally, they were "not invented here [in our community]".
