@logout Same reason we now have frameworks for embedded development in NodeJS, WebUSB, etc. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. When there is a surplus of hammers, people try to turn other things into nails.

Today in 80s oddities: A Sony Watchman portable television, featuring an unusual side view CRT display. Video signal courtesy of an Atari Flashback connected to an RF modulator and pair of rabbit ears, making a very low power analog television transmitter.

@djsumdog @ajroach42 Quite possibly. I took this photo myself but it seems like the kind of thing Techmoan would do a video about.

@lain cats can have a little wire insulation as an occasional treat, as long as it isn't asbestos?

For some reason I feel like sharing a photo of my blender. It's from the mid to late 60s and has a cool pulse mode implemented with an electric motor turning a gear, cycling a switch on and off. It won't blend a crowbar but it handles things you'd actually want to eat just fine.

Bagels! Having more time to cook is one of the few positives of the current state of the world.

@lis Indeed, what garbage. It's 2020, some younger adults have literally never known a time that the US wasn't at war. We're not a bunch of babies, we're sick of the status quo and want change, but the same people who accuse us of being spoiled and lazy get mad when we do try to take action and stand up for our beliefs.

This machine hasn't been booted since 2014, a bad mouse blew the PS/2 port fuse and it sat in my repair pile, got moved to the new house, and finally got a new fuse tonight.

Correction: I have been informed that this is in fact a 24MB drive despite being in a box labeled 12MB. The 12 meg version was the same size, just with one platter instead of two.

SCSI2SD installation for a Quadra 605. 3D printing is cool but scrap wood is free and I can do 2 saw cuts and drill some screw holes faster than I can print something.

When will the LLM hype finally go away? A computer program regurgitating bits and pieces of other people's creative work isn't "intelligence" any more than teaching your dog to respond to "Hey Fido, what's 2+2" by barking 4 times actually constitutes teaching a dog math.
