@aral It's such a fricking shame: I'd marvel at a AI home assistant type thing, ie. what Google Home and Amazon Echo claim to be. But I won't use them because they won't really work for me but for those companies.

Grrr, bought a new #robot vacuum, with proper reviews etc. And of course it comes with an app these days. So the thing has to connect to WiFi... Which of course it didn't. :-(Tried a few times over, different networks, checked the password etc. Even created a new network just for IoT devices (which is a good measure anyways). Nothing still.Searched a bit, with the tips being: turn of VPN (I have the DDG tracking protection thing) and mobile internet/4G. That did the trick!

@karmanyaahm yeah, it makes sense, as all traffic is routed through the VPN. Although it does work with other local devices. But it works now, also with VPN on.

@7666 I wonder if this comes down with even greater adoption. Electric kit cars perhaps, although I should assume those exist.

@k4t3 @7666 problem with cars is the regulation I suppose. Getting something self built through inspections on the road legally, with insurance. But realistically, I'd say an electric car is simpler than an internal combustion car, so I guess there will eventually be cheaper, simpler models that are under less tight control by the manufacturer.
