In the mid 20th century, there was a demand for "low background steel" - steel produced prior to the detonation of nuclear bombs because steel produced at the time was contaminated by background radiation. In the mid 21st century, I wonder if they'll be a similar demand for hard copy books that were produced before the contamination of AI misinformation.#AI #ChatGPT

While looking for pics of bleps for Bleptember, I stumbled on this old picture from April 2021, before I cleared all the moss of our garage roof.Moss or no moss, the cats love this roof. The garage, an old barn, is built into a hill so the lowest part of that side is only about 60cm off the ground ie, a perfect height for being tickled when a human is walking along the adjacent footpath.#mosstodon #caturday #blackcat

#3goodthings for Sun 5th May1) Bacon butties for breakfast. Colourful crochet blankets on the line.*2) Seedlings appearing. More seeds sown. Bramble clearing. The lawns neatly mown. 3) A calf is suspicious of me. Its mum doesn't seem bothered and grazes close to the wall that I'm leaning over but the little calf goes wide, frowning at me from halfway down the field.* (As seen in the background of the picture I posted of cobwebbed Ren earlier.)#EverydayinMay

I'm a lifelong tomboy but as I get older (45), I'm struggling to find things to wear for summer. My default look - long shorts, band t, trainers - makes me look like I'm going to a ska-punk gig in 1998. I'm generally happy looking like I'm ready to skank, but sometimes I'd like/need to look a bit smarter.I hate floaty fabric on myself so most summer dresses/wide linen pants are out. Ditto light colours.Fellow #tomboy / #enby / otherwise not "girlie" women, what do you wear in summer?

@futurebird a few people have suggested shirt dresses and now that I think about it, they were my favourite type of dress when I was a teenager. Thanks for your suggestions!

@futurebird I also would have loved to know the term as a kid. Not knowing it meant I had to reconcile what I was physically (a girl) and how I felt (not very girlish). Thankfully my family didn't insist on any performative femininity and we didn't have a lot of money so wearing my brother's hand-me-downs made sense. Eventually, my definition of womanhood expanded to include me ("I am female & I am like this so therefore women can be like this").Not sure what would happen if I was young now.

#FensterFreitag at Finchale Priory, County Durham, UK.The priory was founded on the site of a hermitage in 1196 and functioned as a holiday retreat for the monks of Durham until 1538. It is now surrounded by a campsite - which seems fitting!

@llewelly @futurebird yes, gray is more distinctly gray than grey (which is insipid). But colour is brighter and more saturated than color. The 'u' makes it a bit extra. And a pronunciation only thing: a schedule (skedule) is a lot more firm itinerary than schedule (shedule). The latter is just a guideline, the former is mandatory.

@futurebird @llewelly yes, colour is more organic than color.
