@kzimmermann Nice #ortholinear #mechanicalkeyboard I wonder what kind of switches are in them, the keycaps look pretty nice too.

@martijnbraam APK needs to take a lesson from Pacman and provide better human output, manuals and help.3.5mm Jack has bad volume & requires Terminal & Alsa Mixer TUI to turn volume up past ~55%. Audio is muddy until switched in settings to "HiFi Audio" device #3Lollypop complains about missing kid3-cli and has no Tracks list. Rhythmbox doesn't scale. Many apps badly need profiling for sub 3 second delays on input actions. That said I still use the music player hrs/day but its painful.

@martijnbraam Thanks for the protips, I'm sure improvements are in the pipeline, the good news is I am able to do several 3 hour workout sessions with #lollypop I figure in a year or so these issues will be smoothed out. I'm embarrassed how long it took me to discover the [>_] button to the right of space was for the "F1-F12" keys which are needed to use alsamixer

@derek #LibreWolf browser scales nicely on #swaywm -- after 2 weeks on #brave I've made LW my default, deleted my #firefox account and purged ~/.mozilla -- now more than ever it's important we have diversity of choice with so much monoculture

@BrodieOnLinux Makes sense. LBRY/Odysee has come a long way. I check for content there -- the organic roots are down and growing. I've been thinking of blocking ALL Google and other invasive companies at the router level, returning to the 2003 Internet is not that hard when you were used to what it was like. Diversifying new options will payoff big in the future for us as consumers and viewers.

@purism Posh was nice to use on PostmarketOS PinePhone I just wasn't into the whole "Combined Launch & Expose". Other than that "pull down" instead of "tap" to open the top slider would align with user expectations better. And improvements to the keyboard would help -- Level 2 & Level 3 icons are not distinguished. v1.0 has been a big milestone, so I'm very excited to see what refinements you all cook up for v2.0 so to speak.

@switchedtolinux #wokefox 😂 I switched to #librefox about a week ago and I like it minus a few rough edges -- by default the Password Manager is disabled and I can't get the integration plugin working to link up to #NextCloud passwords manager app but otherwise it's been solid.I think #geminispace tries to depart from the #helpmybrowserisaoperatingsystem and go back to KISS -- worth a watchI don't think LibreWolf is ready for the average user, I hope to see that change this year.

@purism AFAIK Firefox has a lot of Telemetry turned on by default. I hope someday people turn it off or choose to get a fork like #librewolf in good shape for ESR-like usage.

@derek Papa DT, Thank you! Segregation & Discrimination based on Ideology has no place in Free & Open Source Software.Once again, bad-actors are crafting propaganda in the name of "SUPERIOR MORALITY" to mask their advancing agendas of recrafting the world according to their own ideology. Seeing your video gives me hope that people are waking up and starting to see through the bullshit.

@derek I enjoyed the braindump. Stay warm & prepared for more crazy weather. As a Arch user for 6 years it has many perks due to its simplistic design.I do worry with censorship that the Internet could someday loose freedom of access and it does perk my interest in Gentoo & Source based distros -- having a offline copy of all source code to compile software has its perks.Arch KISS philosophy and Unix Way of do one thing and do it well, along with strong wiki are big selling points.

@derek I'm giving it a shot. At a glance the UX seems more in line with average user-expectations vs complexity of Thunderbird.I get the whole "credit where credit is due" part in reference to Microsoft, but their interest in Linux I'm sure is self-interest -- we are still 2nd class or 3rd class citizens not having access to Primary Microsoft Software suchas: Native Office, Native Direct X, Native Windows Store, etc... so they have a long way to come to impress me or earn me as a consumer.

My #samsung #phone battery is out of energy and I'm honestly tempted to leave it empty & un-nourished.These silicon prisons no longer serve us, they hijack our consciousness and take us on a ride. The year of the #linuxphone can't come fast enough #pinephone #librem5I now appreciate the idea behind "The Unix Way" -- "do one thing and do it well". Sometimes it's nice when a calculator is just a calculator. It feels like these "all-in-one" devices were a mistake.

@metalune I've thought about this too -- shrinking the technology so much makes the hardware essentially "all-in-one" and even if the software is open-source the hardware isn't. At present I agree, Dumb Phones are the only practical way of taking the freedom back. I remain somewhat optimistic. Have you narrowed down to any favorite old-school devices or have any protips?

@derek I enjoyed this video, I dont care for RSM but he earned his place in history & I learned to take things outside his scope of expertise with a heap of salt. I would much rather see the hostiles of cancel culture defeated than a champion of digital freedom & digital human rights.

@kzimmermann This is the perfect example why I welcome the #rust util revolution -- there is much room for improvement in the existing tried & true tools, sane defaults, proper color coding, formatting that takes into account modern screen resolution, -- I would welcome a dd with TUI notcurses progress bar for example. In my opinion many tools exceed the minimum complexity and are obtuse at best with human operators.

@kzimmermann `dd if=/device of=/device`I've never seen if & of as a schema in other tools. It would make more sense as `i=` and `o=` or `stream-data source=/device destination=/device`

@metalune Always have a exit strategy, the answer is subjective and should include the words "For You", it may work, it may not work. Your dependance would shift from family to your boss so keep that in mind.
