Back in the early days of the X Window System, X10 era, there was a window manager that tried to emulate the Andrew System’s original tiled window interface, which tiled windows based on constraint solving.Andrew moved to a simpler layout algorithm and there is a later X window manager also called “Andrew somethingorother” that uses this simplified algorithm. But the original X WM. I saw it on a tape, source and all, years ago, and now I can’t find it. #x11 #unix #andrew #retrocomputing

If you're interested, you can try it here:https://www.pcjs.org/software/pcx86/sys/windows/win95/4.00.950/Go to Start -> Shut Down and select the option to turn off the computer.Once the "it's now safe to turn off your computer" screen is shown you have to *quickly* (as soon as the image is shown) type "cls" to clear the screen. I don't remember needing to be quick back in the day, but here you do.It doesn't reset the display completely, but you'll have a DOS prompt and can do DOS things.

The most pitiable of those who suffer:- The meek- The afflicted - Native #French or #Mandarin speakers next to me on a flight.(Though one time I did end up next to an #Amiga enthusiast who had worked on SFX for #Babylon5 and we had a Grand Old Time. I also ended up to a nice grandma for Mexico one time who got into a drinking contest with me and we kept buying drinks for each other. It’s the little things.)
