       Realized I'd hit a milestone.I have reached a point where the amount of people I follow here on Mastodon now yield the same-or-better level of connection to the communities of interest I have that Twitter used to provide before it started to fall apart.I no longer miss the feed I had curated for myself there because I have a (superior) curated feed here now.That's kind of huge. I thought it would take longer, or it would be an onerous process. But it was easy and fast to exit Twitter.

       OpenAI claims it is "impossible" to create AI tools like ChatGPT without copyrighted material.That's a lie.Sure, it might be *expensive* to create them, perhaps even prohibitively so for their particular financial situation, because they need to legally acquire said copyrighted materials.But it is not at all "impossible".Just like the rest of us, if you can't figure out how to pay for it, you can't just steal it, even if you're planning on making something useful with it.

       @futurebird Weird! I was looking for beetle miniatures for a game just yesterday!How big are they? The site doesn’t seem to say. I am looking for some to use as giant beetle creatures alongside 28mm-scale figurines, and the ones I have found so far are either lackluster or prohibitively expensive.

       @futurebird I know three siblings in that age range, two of whom are in long term committed relationships, who have expressed a strict unwillingness to get married.Why? Because their mom was awful and they saw what their dad had to get through in order to get away from her. Now they’re happy, the mom’s out of the picture, and the dad’s free. But it took decades.I can see why kids witnessing people suffering broken marriages and messy divorces might sour on the idea of marriage.
