@futurebird Not taking away from your suggestion, which I really like (having grown up on many real life history stories from my elders & other amazing people), but I believe that places like the Smithsonian, NY Public Library, Library of Congress and other major repositories have on-line access. It's probable that the Holocaust Museum & Archive, the African American Museum & other major historical museums have a lot of online content and stories...

@futurebird I've also been looking for a tiny rice maker for 1, maybe 2. SO many say they're small, then talk about 1.5-3 cups dry/uncooked! NO! Amazon has one called Macook rice cooker small, 0.3L mini cooker. One review said while the directions begin with 1/2 cup, he often just cooks 1/4 cup & turns out great. Is $25.99 Can cook quinoa, oatmeal, soup... has removable non-stick pot insert. 7"h x 6"across.

@futurebird You know he'll just say whatever he would like to hear or believe. He doesn't give 2 💩💩s if there's an iota of truth to it. He'll say it until Faux Noise reports it and it becomes fuct. Er, fact.

@futurebird Hi. I have no idea if there may have been similar movement throughout Africa as there was through Europe/Middle East/Asia, like the Silk Road. For example, there are ancient settlements of Jews in India, Turkey, China. They went to trade, & stayed, had families, became "locals". My late husband & I participated in the National Geographic Genome Project when they first offered their DNA testing to raise money for their studies. I wasn't at all surprised by my results...

@futurebird 2/2... It showed that my maternal side is 99% Ashkenazi Jewish, which is totally in line with my family's history. My dad's side was a little weirder, with a haplogroup that's often seen in Native American people, but his family was also Jewish. But they were Romanian/Turkish. I've never tried the newer tests. I agree that they need to be balanced by good research. But it's frustrating to meet a wall. We did find long-lost cousins, though❣️

@ErikUden Isn't it odd that Democrats/Liberals/Progressives... always feel defensive about their (our) very decent, noble & hopefully humane ideals. We allow "Conservatives" (what a joke) & Republicans to bully, smear & malign - but it never occurs to us to go on the offensive. We're gentle, they're bullies. We're thoughtful, they are arbitrary & selfish. We need to be proud of our philosophies & goals, not apologetic and meek.

@futurebird My mom, who would have been 97 this year, absolutely loved Lena Horne. She died before The Wiz came out, but her love was the 40's, standards & musicals.

@futurebird I'm so glad other folks are wondering things like this. I've been told kids don't need cursive because they mostly write papers on a device & print it out, or are now asked to print because most of their handwriting is illegible. Isn't that because they aren't taught to write legibly? (Then again, out of all my sisters and cousins, all of whom are 68 to 78, I'm the only one with good "penmanship"- how's that for an oldie but goodie?!)😆

@futurebird Makes a lot of sense - but social media is still in the Wild West stages, seems to me. Anything goes. No standards or rules. And kind of like Forest Gump's box of chocolates. Except some of the chocolates are turds or coal, not nougat or cherries.

@futurebird @trinsec Intriguing! I've never tried using compressed teas. I'm a tea drinker, but my "gourmet" (not) is stuff like Bengal Spice (CS), Constant Comment (Bigelow), and a curious "tonsil tea" (from China) from a Chinese market. I loved my Dad, & Jean-Luc Picard, but hate Earl Grey! 😁

@futurebird @ashwin @InkySchwartz @cshlan @neonsnake This is such an interesting thread. As a Jew, every Passover, we heard the story about our ancient enslaved forefathers being freed from bondage. But the most recent digs do seem to prove that the craftsmen and laborers were voluntary, or at least not slaves. Then again, I've never believed in the old man in the sky.

@futurebird @ashwin @InkySchwartz @cshlan @neonsnake The thing about slavery is that it has always gone on, and often within the same ethnic groups. The Irish enslaved fellow Irish. Different groups of Africans captured and sold others to the European slave traders. It was money. Chinese have enslaved each other for centuries. Romans, Turks and Huns enslaved anyone. We are such an illogical, harsh species.
