@clacke Many nations are running trade deficits, even nations that don't control the world's reserve currency. The currency thing is more involved with the government's budget deficit than with the trade deficit.I've long been in favor of raising taxes (especially on the wealthy [high level of assets but not necessarily high current income] & high income) as part of ending the budget deficit and repaying the national debt. IMO, those currently under 30 and their kids are going to be stuck paying all those funds back. The trade deficit is partly caused by shifting production to countries without costly environmental protections that also have low labor costs. As those advantages evaporate, certain countries that have been booming for the past few decades will find themselves struggling.

@clacke @sun All I know is that around 85 minutes I start wishing the movie would end. I don't watch many movies, but when I do, they're almost always painfully long.

@inscius They've been trying to audit the Pentagon for years. Between trying to fire everyone who understands government accounting and doing a rush job, I don't see this working at all.

@sun Yeah, I've been trying to read Soatok's posts about Signal and Session and all that garbage really detracts from their message.

@clacke Now that you're older and wiser, there's nothing stopping you from moving to Kenya and starting your own uni. Except maybe the wisdom part. 😁

@sun Someone is *offering* one of those t-shirts for $700. They may have to cut the price in order to sell it.

https://mastodon.social/@organicmaps/114233788700982882 Getting blocked by GitHub could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on why it happened. Looking at the conversation over here, I don't see them saying anything about those reasons. Maybe MastoSoc shows a more complete conversation. The claim is made that someone on the team visited Crimea since the Russian invasion of 2014, with the implication that someone on the Organic Maps team supports the invaders. Strangely, the person making the claim seems to say they don't care about the borders. That doesn't make sense.Anyway, I don't know anything about OMaps, but I'm glad when any project moves its main development infrastructure off of centralized services. Normally, I'm in favor of leaving a residual mirror repo on GitHub / GitLab or similar hubs, but if they're unable to push commits there, that's useless.

"The NATO alliance gobbled up almost all our former hostage states." Yeah, well the perceptive among those former hostages realized you'd probably try to return.

@clacke Whoa! That explains a lot about how little the Democrats have done to obstruct and defend against these odious actions and policies.

I noticed several years back that most people in MO | KS | NE seemed to be nicer than people in other states where I worked. More like people were in the SGV area of SoCal when I was growing up.

@clacke Honestly, I never heard of the AMD E-1 until you just posted about it. I know that when everyone started getting excited about ARM's lower power consumption, both Intel and AMD started working on reducing consumption on certain models. But I haven't ever purchased any computer or CPU based on lower power consumption. I still want a screen I can see and Wi-Fi that stays connected.

> I'm declaring war on the sahara desert by planting trees. Billions must grow.. TOTAL DESERT DEATH https://netzsphaere.xyz/objects/d1c037d6-1dfa-499f-8823-d217a798ad9a That only works a little. There were once trees in portions of what is now the Sahara Desert, but trees need water to survive. I expect we have not yet found a way to increase that area's rainfall without transforming another area into a perpetual drought zone®.
