Today was my 4 yr work anniversary.LinkedIn automatically posted that I was celebrating 4 years. Now I’m getting countless messaging pings from people I don’t really know posting the same autosuggested congratulatory message.Boy, this is not the future I envisioned.

@yuki (for context https://forums.redflagdeals.com/free-jar-jif-1-kg-creamy-peanut-butter-after-sending-1-300-text-messages-2720502/)Evidently you can also send out giant messages with 'peanut' repeated instead of individual peanut messages.

How much do you trust your own hobby electronics?I have a relatively simple idea but it would involve putting my self-assembled electronics under my pillow while I sleep.I am hesitant. I mean, I know what I'm doing (more-or-less) but the idea of something going horribly awry while I sleep is unsettling. On the other hand, I have countless electronic objects around me when I sleep and I know nothing of the skill of the engineer that designed them. This doesn't bother me.

Lots of good points in @lostintech 's review of the #Sovol SV06 Ace. My faith in #3dPrinting was restored with a Klipper-ized SV06 and the Ace is that and more. I recognize a lot of SV08 influence in the Ace too.I don't really _need_ an Ace, but it looks like a lot of value.

So… I think I need to go on a corporate social media diet. Largely Meta stuff.Years ago, I isolated FB to my phone, which I used infrequently. FB has creeped back in more than is comfortable. Also WhatsApp and occasionally lurking on Instagram. I could give up IG but WhatsApp and FB are harder: there are local and family connections that don’t exist elsewhere sadly.I’m considering resurrecting an old phone isolating the toxic apps away from my main device. Anyone tried a similar diet?

I had a conversation today at work and someone said “No one under 35 knows what BSD is”. Let see how that works in here:(35th birthday + 1 second is over 35.)

@philip @kaia He’s a Linux guy who maintains packages you probably use. So, I think the analogy is more “I cook spaghetti every day. No one cares about linguini.”

It only takes the efforts of 2 principal engineers and 1 senior engineer to fix a PR submitted by a junior engineer who used an LLM.What an amazing increase in efficiency.

Ever wonder why you see so many PCBWay sponsorships on YouTube? The screenshot below came to my _work_ email address. I don't have much associated with my work that is connected to #3dprinting The only link I have between this email address is an #OpenSCAD tutorial I did at a conference were I was also presenting on other stuff. There was a recording and it has... checks notes: 186 views over 1 year.

@loke I suspect they are fine. They're trying to increase demand in a small segment and following the disruptor's playbook - take a lot of funding and spend most of it on marketing, making their name generic for the segment. The taper off the marketing and ride the long tail.I suspect they are screwed by the changes in the de minimis import rules in the US and are scrambling for non-US based creators like me.

Pretty interesting results that go against commonly held (erroneous) assumptions in #3dPrinting:1) PLA isn't strong,2) You make parts stronger by increasing infill. The latter drives me bonkers: it's pretty common to see things along the lines of "it's strong because 80% infill" in forums and comments.:eyeroll: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEHNijssAKc

This is one of the craziest #3dPrinting stories I’ve read.1. A printed part in an AIRPLANE ENGINE bay and not one done on some exotic industrial thing.2. It looks like a shit print: obvious printing flaws like sagging and stringing, separate from the failure.3. The part seller claimed it was ABS CF but it had the glass transition temperature of PLA (99.9% sure it was just PLA sold as ABS.. so fraud probably on the part seller’s part)https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1w932vqye0o

@timixretroplays Kobo eink devices don’t run Android, right? It’s maddening, but reality, for me in Canada that no one ebook ecosystem has everything. So, I’m probably 90% kobo DRM’Ed books and 8% Kindle and 2% no drm books.
