@CliffWade wireguard is surprisingly easy to setup, and Racknerd has a VPS line that's sorta made for IP nodes, for dirt cheap

@bergmeister @CliffWade do you mind if I ask what email you sent it to? I can no longer see a submission info page, with an email- so it may have changed now. But originally, this is who I sent it to. I genuinely want to figure this out, because if it is some sort of confusion about how to request to be listed, it would benefit a *lot* of people

@CliffWade it's currently up for me, and is French so I'm relying on Google translate, but the sign-ups are requiring a code for verification so it's likely that since the accounts appear to be English in nature, the instance admin is unaware of bots abusing the platform. Additionally it'd be reasonable to surmise that it's being manually done given code requirements being required to finish sign-ups

@EU_Commission this is actually super cool. I know it's not like this in the US, but even on the newer switch the issues still come up! It's awesome to see that the EU is taking steps like this, both for waste, and the consumer!

Is joinmastodon.org just not adding any more instances? I've officially been trying to get a response for 6 months now, and now the Mastodon App is promoting mastodon.social as the "main" instance. I am so confused. My instance could hold plenty more folks than we've got right now, whereas Mastodon.social constantly gives me error codes on federation. It's just frustrating, since it's making it hard for Mastodon to achieve the whole decentralized platform thing. #mastoadmin #mastodon #joinmastodon #eugen #social #instance

I would even just like a rejection, but I can't even get that. It's very confusing, and makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. Because it's always "thanks for absorbing the wave" but only for a few of the top instances that are promoted. Just weird. It makes it hard to want to join a smaller instance when the only ones being given the time of day are quite large. Dunno. I used to think maybe they were busy, but for 6 months? Not even a reply of "Hey, try again later?"

@ruud I got listed last night actually, a reply to my original submission from November. I think they are waiting for server admins to prove they are in it for the long haul, which actually makes a lot of sense. I still think there should be some transparency on that part, though.

@stux @aral I was annoyed by these bots and I contacted admins, most were single person instances who forgot to close signups. Seems whoever is behind the bots is intentionally looking for instances like that
