It's almost a given with me, but something's up with the Apache config of my setup so can't get the blog to load for some reason. Instead of hacking away at things, I'm keen to start from scratch. Despite saying what must have been a million times already, I'll try to document the whole process this time.

Other half is away for a couple of weeks this month so have plenty of time to get everything done. Can then 'launch' the site for 2020 and start making content on a regular basis. Or so I say...

Does anybody use the federation functionality of their Nextcloud server? If so, what do you use it for and how well does it work for you? Pretty much just looking for an excuse to use it myself.

@Matter Ah, hadn't thought of that. Did you have to edit each share to update to the new domain name? Could you just unshare the files/folders then reshare with the new domain name?

@Gina Glad it works like that there. Not sure it would work quite as well here in the UK, but still better than others who may have no protections whatsoever.

@Matter I see. Only used torrents when internet speeds were slow. Not had much of an issue with my gigabit connection, though of course it depends on the server you're downloading from.

@jkWe need to see a string of pro-indy polls come out after this election for my faith to be restored. If people are still not keen on independence, we'll lose again, then I fear we won't get another vote until I'm too old to enjoy it.

Downgraded my fiber package, because I have no real need for a gogabit connection, and the ISP seems to have removed my static IP. Web server down for now until that gets fixed.

Yep, ISP had forgot to apply the static IP I had. They've just introduced a 500MB service, so have opted for that. Thinking 150MB seems a bit low, and the 1GB somewhat of a waste.

@null0x0 The 500MB service is £38 + £5 for my static IP. I had downgraded to the 150MB for £35+5, and the GB line was £45+5. Not really much in it... The speed difference between 150 and 500 makes the added £3 cost work it, IMO.

Managed to get the blog, site and streaming server installed tonight and all working, which is nice. Usually something goes wrong, but after doing it so many times I now know what I'm doing. I think...

@jordan31I've setup MistServer (foss) on a VM, which allows me to use OBS from my desktop to stream to the server, that then gives me a HTML embed to place the stream on a webpage. Now I need to embed a simple web chat next to the stream and I essentially have my own Twitch service that I fully control.

@GinaOh wow that sounds awful. Their heart is in the right place, but a very different time. These days, you do you and have no regrets about it. Best way to be, and probably the healthiest mentally.

I will keep this account open for the time being, though I will now change my Forget settings to only keep toots from the last 30 days, with the aim of completely closing it at some point soon.
