       @lauren The article refers to Mastodon as a "site" founded by Eugen Rochko and implies that it could be purchased. I'm trying to come up with a more accurate framing, but it's way out of my lane, so forgive the finger painting... Mastodon is an open-source project written and maintained by Eugen. VC's are offering to fund a for-profit company that might  charge for services around the open-source tools of the Fediverse kind of like Red Hat or Canonical. Am I close? (And Rochko says no, anyway.)

       @arstechnica Teaching QM for many years leaves me cold on interpretations of the kind covered here. The surviving ones are not falsifiable, and hence are not really science. But we can be forgiven for wanting to speculate. There is something missing in this otherwise nice article. I expect articles on Quantum theory for general audiences to mention the death in the 20th-century of local realism.        @freemo @khird The X rays come from inner electrons being occasionally blasted out of the atom by the escaping alpha. (The X rays are emitted as replacement electrons drop into the vacancies.) The kinetic energy of the alpha is far too great for an electron (or two) to hitch a ride.

       @freemo @khird That's surprising to me. Might be a moderation decision by quoto.org as opposed to a broadly-distributed block list. I just moved from firefish.social back to mas.to and pretty much all of my followers made the jump.

       @futurebird This is so good. Part of the framing of the assignment might productively be to really think through what life might be like for the readers of the library, because that has a lot of implications for both its content and form.
