@mightywomble @jplebreton It's impossible for Mastodon to become like Facebook or Twitter, but it *is* possible for Mastodon to become like email with Google and Microsoft having a large chuck of the userbase.But then, it is still possible for various Fediverse services to become consumed by the Data Mining motivation, but because of ActivityPub as a back end I would hope it would be more resistant.

@urantherWhat takes does The Fediverse have on BitCoin?I can't tell if this thread is ironically praising BitCoin or not, but @feld is correct about BitCoin being garbage, and it's garbage for a lot more reasons.I agree that we should abolish money, too, although I'm not sure how supporting BitCoin does that.

How difficult is it to set up a DNS server? My budget is $0 but I have some equipment laying around unused... I just don't know if it's the right equipment.And it wouldn't help very much when I'm out and about using my phone...

If using your website doesn't involve repeated client/server interaction then it should be easy to access your site and your site's contents without ever actually visiting the site with a web browser, and to use your site without being online at all.

I think it would be interesting to see a network graph of federation in the #Fediverse.Is there a way to analyze that kind of thing without making people feel like their privacy is being invaded?
