Aha I think I already have a cute name. Mobility Aware Secure Transport. MAST. mast USER@HOST APPNAME other args here...would basically be a drop-in replacement for ssh. Now just to work out how to implement the damn thing. But since we have a name that's the easy part, right? ;)

@xtaran screen or tmux are interactive, for terminal use. They don't behave like a "dumb serial port".The key thing about using ssh in this manner is that everything is transparent to the application. It's a long-lived bidirectional fully-duplex stream of arbitrary random bytes. Either side can just send at any time and know the other side will receive it. This is the part I want to preserve.

Who do I have to bribe such that int f(int x, int y, ); f(1, 2, );becomes valid syntax in the next #C standard? I am getting tired of trailing commas not being allowed in argument lists. It really screws with (semi)-autogenerated code, macros, etc...

@foone PIC microcontrollers use a ring buffer as a stack. Very easy to do that there

Someone, tell me: How am I supposed to set up a server, so that mail to its `root@`... account actually gets sent to somewhere I can see? Right now it's just all sitting in that machine's /var/spool/mail. Kinda useless. I want it where I can see it.What do I have to install and set up and why isn't that done as standard on a debian box?

In a #C function, empty statements are valid. So it's allowable to have a macro that expands to simply `;` if it shouldn't do anything. Are there equivalent things for struct members and initialisers?I want a macro that puts extra information into structs for debug purposes, but if debugging is disabled it should do nothing. That means the macro will be empty. But what empty thing can I put in the struct so the macro can still be followed by a semicolon or comma..?

As a programmer is it important to know the difference between an API and an IPA. Misusing either can mess up your evening, but the solution to each is very different.

It's a shame that "Segmentation Fault" doesn't have enough syllables to be the final line of a haiku

@futurebird @whknott @neckspike It puts me in mind of some of the extremophile species found exclusive in the now-ruined Chernobyl nuclear reactor

@foone Drawing text starting that far right is unlikely. Maybe if it needs to start any further it left-pads with spaces?

@foone If you make some of the IO pins output which graphics layer was eventually used for the output colour, it allows the card to be used for live video overlaying purposes, by using that signal as a keying mask

@foone Ugh, I hate that kind of "we own everything" clause in an employment contract. I do so much open source work that I always negotiate it out before I agree to any contract.

@gorplop That in 2025 people still have to think about TCP port numbers is nothing short of insanity. We don't refer to machines by plain IP address, nor files by inode number. Why do people still accept this?
