@futurebird More than a century ago the US military was already powerful enough that the Theodore Roosevelt could simply "speak softly and carry a big stick". One might expect the country to not need actually going to war as often! Maybe it's simply a matter I'd justifying military expanding, ie making more money flow to contractors

@futurebird I don't know about eating us, specially if we were still alive and (literally) kicking, but I presumed they were at least heterotrophic

@futurebird IIRC there are some provisions like that for a few high-profile positions in Brazil, and probably in the US too. Probably, they should be more comprehensive, eg no "consulting fees" for a few years.

@futurebird As an aside, snakes & ladders is fun, and playing dice is said to have been wildly popular in ancient Rome. Perhaps pure randomness is OK if you have the illusion of control?

@futurebird I share the feeling, and I don't have a better answer than (sort of) giving up on (some) people. (Pardon the metaphors ahead.) I don't know the context here but: perhaps accepting that, for some people, for some subjects, we have to walk on eggshells, or even agree on disagreeing. Pick our battles, and/or adopt a more oblique approach. Sometimes, admit some people act in bad faith, and adjust our sails accordingly.

@futurebird Just in case: a video was added twice to the fediTV playlist on YouTube. (I didn't know it was possible, and don't know if it matters.)

@futurebird As someone who needs to use LibreOffice and the like, what grates me the most is how people using it have no idea there's an underlying logic of invisible characters, formating styles etc.I admit there must be software enabling people who don't know this stuff to produce acceptable documents, but I resent that these office suits don't tip people about there being a better way to format documents.
