@fooneMy shaver doesn't have the battery glued in, it just refuses to work with a cable plugged in, and the battery only lasts three years. No, they don't sell replacement batteries, it's officially not replaceable, even though the manual has instructions for removing the battery for recycling.

The only place NAT should be allowed is lab/experiment networks, where you might need to duplicate a production IP range."But what about the office network, there is no reason that anyone should ever need to connect directly to an office PC". Once you use NAT there, your IP telephony software needs fragile workarounds just for Sally in marketing to be able to call Alice in legal. And in the next version, those fragile workarounds will be replaced with a cloud service that sells your trade secrets to your competitor."But Skype just works". Skype is a great example of the above, it used to have all kinds of NAT workarounds, now it goes via a server where Microsoft listens in on your calls.#NAT #IPv6

@Phil_Tanner @simontathamI don't recall ever accidentally having the wrong window focussed when entering my password.Other windows stealing focus, on the other hand...So rather than writing code to detect passwords, removing the code that steals focus would be a much better way to spend developer time.

@fooneI've seen gamer keyboards advertise 6-key rollover. But if you use diodes right, there shouldn't be a hardware limit, and as far as I know, the protocol itself sends key down, key up, which also has no limit. How many diodes does an 8x16 matrix (128 keys) need? And how many fractions of a cent is that in chip area?

@davidbissetIt may not be real, but the Danish national ID system had a similar one at the beginning. To prevent brute force attempts, they would lock a user account after N failed login attempts (even though brute forcing should be impossible with one time codes), so all you needed to lock someone elses account was their username and a wrong password - and it's easy to guess a wrong password😀The solution they chose was to tell people not to tell anyone their username, but when I went to create mine, I was told that the username I wanted was already taken. So I had both someone elses username and a reason to want to lock them out (they took the username I wanted). I didn't, but I easily could have.

@lovelylovelyWell, he is going to end up with a vitamin D deficiency due to lack of sunlight on the north pole🤔(But see also the other reply about the real Santa being from Turkey).I can support pissing off racists and making them reveal who they really are, and if you ask me, the solution to the old problem of how Santa can reach that many homes in a few hours without breaking the speed of light is that there is more than one Santa (examples: Julemanden lives in Greenland, Jultomten in Lapland) so why wouldn't some of them be black?

@ruari @sotolf @anon_opinDo you even have a penny farthing, or are you just dragging the tiny wheel unicycle behind the regular one?😜Kidding, but the saddle position is close enough that you could probably fool people, especially if the camera angle is 45ish degrees.

@Lily_and_frog @futurebirdMight be all the way back to the whole eating pigs and shellfish thing. From what I've been told, society back then was very black and white, everything was split into right and wrong. Essentially, if there were two options, one of them had to be wrong.

@davidrevoyWait, they are same sex? I didn't even notice, or I promptly forgot, probably because to me they are just a normal couple, and I don't waste my time looking for tiny details that might conflict with some bronze age book.

@FediFollows @pidgin @FreeTube @TiddlyWiki @bookstack @homeassistant @evccPidgin still lives?Last time I looked, protocols were becoming unsupported one by one, and it seemed like development was slowly dying.

@mrv404 @r1w1s1First of all, is any of this using multilib, or is that just a misdirection?"file" will tell you if an executable or shared object (.so) is 32 or 64 bits. And /sbin/ldconfig -p will tell you which shared objects the system knows about.Your next step is probably to figure out where you got theora and mpv from. Is one of them from a different repository that is not in sync with the other?I sometimes see similar problems between things installed from Salix and from Slackware. And anything I install from source will have these problems when a library is updated.

@mrv404 @r1w1s1 @alienDon't put Ubuntu libraries on your Slackware system - at least not unless you know what you're doing.Delete those, and reinstall anything that was overwritten.

@jasmineThere should be a double space before 38911.(To be honest, I had to look it up, I remembered the double space, but not where it was). Also, don't say sorry, stand proud.

@jasmineThen do it as much as you need to *for you*, but don't do it for them. And stand proud as much as you can, then maybe some day you won't need to say sorry anymore.

@jasmineI did not intend to say you shouldn't say sorry when you messed up. Maybe that wasn't as obvious as I thought? I got the impression that you say it a lot more than that, but maybe I took your little basic program too literally.Saying sorry when you messed up is good. When you did the right thing but someone else didn't lile it, that's the time to stand proud. And you should never feel the need to say sorry for existing.(I was trying to be supportive, but maybe failing, I'm not much of a people person - at all).

@slyka @miunauTry with a pressed CD. The data is a thin aliminium layer right under the label, so cutting the shiny side should not get anywhere near the aluminium layer.CD players were always promised to be able to ignore scratches, I wonder if they are able to read through this intentional scratch.

@slykaI was not aware of the layering of CDRs.So, did it play in a CD player? Was it able to ignore the "scratch"?

@slykaBut the claim is that the laser is not focusing on the scratch, so it should be able to look right past it.

@slyka I know, that's why I would like to see the results.I'll be impressed if it can play, but might also say something about false advertising if it doesn't.
