Anyone have run or experimented with PeerTube? Is it worthwhile for offering an alternative way to reach the videos I make?

I really like Fly.io for deploying frequently to let a client poke at the project and keep it consistently available.Still not thrilled with overall quality of service but for the quick stuff I wonder if there is anything quite so convenient for Elixir?#elixir

@simon I guess the danger of exploitation is very different depending on what actions are taken and some harms will be non-obvious. If the model can access functions or data all that suddenly becomes reachable. If you send messages to others based on what the model produces, suddenly you could be sending spam..

@lanodan @niconiconi so Erlang is good at doing parallel work but if the work is number crunching you get into a more nuanced situation. If you want to call C-level code you can do a NIF and get much of the scheduling fanciness. There is some overhead if you need to pass things across that boundary. So depends on the workload.Elixir/Nx has tackled GPU from Erlang but uses XLA so you don't get the scheduling of Erlang. Also more NIF variants exist with various tradeoffs.

@lanodan @niconiconi I believe an old school (non-dirty) NIF gets all the upside of pre-empting, work stealing and so on.https://www.erlang.org/doc/tutorial/nif.html

It is incredibly tempting to interpret and implement ActivityPubs concept of an Actor as an Elixir GenServer/actor. Mailboxes and message passing. If I was building it out as an in-memory system this could be fun but for typical needs it is conflating runtime characteristics with the outward protocol.Lining those up would make the system simple to reason about in particular ways. I might do the experiment.#erlang #elixir #activitypub

Went for the train to the airport early. Realized I forgot my jacket. Jacket contains ID, credit cards and less importantly my keys.We no longer have plenty of time to the train. If we miss it I can take the next and will still make the flight alright but, geh, unhappy with my presence of mind.It was not hectic. I just did not do a final check of my list.

Going to Chattanooga and hitting both NervesConf and GigCity Elixir. I am so excited. There are so many Elixir friends coming. Both people I have never spoken to, barely know and people I've done podcasts with for years. So, so happy to go.#elixir

@foone usually one discovers a USB drive that surprisingly behaves like a keyboard instead. That's usually how that goes.

An attack that I had not considered.. Don't drop infected USB drives that then pretend to be keyboards to attack the system. Just drop nice mechanical keyboards. They already support custom firmware so you will should have an easy time with them. And it is perfectly safe, it isn't a sketchy USB drive. It is clearly a keyboard.A bit of a premium variant in terms of cost.

@foone oh, this is the default for a bunch of devices (all the Raspberry Pi ones for example) in the Nerves IoT framework. For development.USB Gadget networking over USB for both power and networking is really convenient.Though we typically shove an SSH key on there instead of password. How are you liking the Remarkable2?
