@killyourfm kind is so very important in the online space. I can be direct in person, but that does not translate well online. Here's to kindness

@killyourfm instead of consistent kindness, the default, it seems, has become "mean" and that is not the world I want to live in. "Mean" can stay in my head. It's the constant battle to keep it there.

@killyourfm @thunderbird why did I think that Thunderbird was dead. I've been a Firefox user since 2004 and so wanted Thunderbird to be the full-scale email program/calendar/contact manager that I could use. Did I miss something?

@killyourfm Chuck Coulson, the former US Special Counsel under Nixon who did time for Watergate and later founded Prison Fellowship, talked about the moderating influences of "the group". Once upon a time, the group would admonish or censure, and people were afraid of that. Now - it's everybody for themselves. The world as I see it. "It's all about me".

@killyourfm @thunderbird I hope so too - that the future is bright. I'm not a fan of where Outlook is going. I know - I'm a dinosaur

@killyourfm @thunderbird dinosaur - not in terms of age - although I am old, but in terms of how software programs have evolved. Sometimes it seems as if we are going backwards.

@Arkenston you've been posting Rock Opera - are you familiar with the Québecois rock opera Starmania? Still going strong after 45 years https://www.connexionfrance.com/article/French-news/Visionary-rock-opera-Starmania-is-back-and-on-tour-around-France

@atomicpoet although I truly don't understand this - it sounds like a very cool development. Maybe we will get back to the idea of decentralized social media - somewhere I remember hearing/reading about the notion that the human cortex is only wired to truly be able to manage 250 close personal connections. If that is true - this makes more and more sense, conversations with a small group of people.

@anderspuck what 3rd party apps are you suggesting - also, do they work on a laptop. I will not put Mastodon on my phone.

@grammargirl people who learn languages like Chinese where words are compromised of characters may retain this even after a stroke - whereas people who know languages that require decoding of syllables may not.

@grammargirl it is - I always say that my two fluent languages, French and English, operate of separate tracks, rarely crossing. I don't yet know where Lik'wala, the verb and suffix heavy Indigenous language I am now learning, resides.

@grammargirl and it's similar in Canada too. It's been that way for a long time. I remember the International Literacy Audit of the mid-1990s and the results were similar.

@Kensan @shortridge is this a serious bug? Because when my Office 2013 bites the dust I'll be moving to Open Office/Libre Office and I have a Brother printer - just sayin'.
