@kline I'm not sure how I should explain this, but I think it should be common sense to put a CW on a Post about *blowing people's head's up*.

Ok, so I noticed something about the dances #rumba and #ChaChaCha: In dance.clases, they tell you they're basically the same, eccept where you do one long sidewards step in rumba, you do 3 quick ones in ChaCha. That's what they tell you. Now here is this: In ChaCha, you start with a side step lasting one beat, a back and forth lasting one beat each and then "Cha cha cha" lasting 2 beats in total. Then you step forth (1 beat), back (1b), and again "cha cha cha" (2b).(1/)

Then you repeat everything except the first sidestep: back(1b) forth (1b), cha cha cha (2b), forth (1b) back(1b) cha cha cha (2b) and so on.Rumba OTOH is started with a slow sidestep (2b), then back (1b), forth (1b) and sidewards again (2b), forth(1b), back (1b) and repeat from the beginning. Ok, it's basically the same like chacha, except instead if the quick side steps you do one slow, the back-forth stays the same, you cold theoretically switch mid-dance from one to the other, right?(2/)

Haha lol no, because let's pay attention to the music: (Please excuse me If I'm using any music terminology wrong, this is not what I normally read/write about in english). Music for Rumba and chacha have both four-four-time, meaning each bar has 4 beats. That makes sense, because one side/chachacha (2b), back (1b), forth(1b) cycle lasts 4 beats. But let's pay attention again on the start of the two dances:(3/)

Both of the dances are intuitively starting on the first beat of a bar. Rumba starths with a side (2b), back(1b), forth (1b) and then repeats. This means the side step will always be on beat 1+2, the back-forth on 3+4.Chacha OTOH has this starting side step (1b), then back(1b), forth (1b), chachacha(2b), before it repeats except for the first step. However, if you also start on the first beat, you'll have your back-forth on Beat 2+3 and your Chachacha on 1+4.(4/)

This means while the step patterns are compatible, they're shifted by one beat.I've not noticed that until very recently and I can't stop thinking about it because it seems so cursed. Also, if you're an Rumba/ChaCha expert and I've made any mistakes in or drawn a wrong conclusion, please tell me!(5/5
