Tip for folks who are new to having to use X Windows via xenodm as of #OpenBSD 6.5:Add the following to your .xsession before starting any xterms or your window manager: . ~/.profileOh, yeah. xenodm uses .xsession rather than .xinitrc. The good news is they are basically the same. So you can just use mv/cp/ln.

https://twitter.com/AdamShaftoe/status/1123389416532213760'Soooooo I have been writing reviews for about ten years. My wife's review of Alien puts everything I have ever written to shame. "Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat. Four stars."'

In @akpoff's OpenSMTPd tutorial he just taught me about daily.local and it's "next-part: foo" ability that adds things with a header to the #OpenBSD daily email.*Super* awesome thing to learn. I'm going to be reconfiguring a bunch of servers when I get back to work.

From :birdsite: :‏Verified account @Asher_WolfWhen the specialist says “it’s probably not [insert condition here]” you let them finish and then airily say “oh, could you pls put that in writing it’s not [insert condition here]?” Make sure you say it in your nicest most earnest voice. Worked a treat this week

So this new article showed up on The Register today:https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/07/02/npm_abandons_settlement_talks/TL;DR NPM fired folks for trying to improve working conditions and talking about unionizing. Blatantly illegally. Union busting companies don't usually settle with the employees. That tells me this was egregious.

Anyone ever use ffmpeg (or another *nix tool) to normalize the audio levels on a bunch of videos? The videos on our media server are at all sorts of different volume levels. I know it's possible. I've looked up things, but couldn't get them to work.It finally occured to me someone out there may have done this with #ffmpeg before.

This thread from :birdsite: points out that the union has not called for a boycott, and that boycotting right now hurts small creators and may actually provide ammunition for the scumbag lawyers Kickstarter is hiring. :flan_sad:https://twitter.com/bignoseagenda/status/1178407904816373760

There is one major weakness in the general BSD community (and it doesn't seem to be specific to any one BSD): There is too much assumed knowledge. This even extends to our professional events (conferences, etc.)

A standout feature for sysadmins in #OpenBSD 6.7?The additions to crontab(5)1) Putting ~ in a time field picks a random time. You can also use it as a range 1~30 picks a random time between 1 and 30. You can use it for all fields.2) Next up, the "-s" modifier before the command in the command field. Think "Single instance". It won't run another instance until the first one finishes. Huge. Think of all the synchronization goo we put in our scripts? Unnecessary now.

If anyone wants to test a WIP port of xrdp for #openbsd check out my mystuff repository:https://github.com/kmosiejczuk/mystuffYou'll want the graphics/rfxcodec, graphics/libpainter, and net/xrdp folders.xrdp will probably need a proper rc.d file and a README.I've done no testing yet. I've got it compiling and the port mostly in shape.
