#FluffyChat v1.21.2 has been released πŸš€ and is right now available in all AppStore (except F-Droid). This release brings several 🐞 bug fixes and a 🚨 security fix.Rooms without a known last message are no longer jumping around in the room list and the last message in the room list now also decrypts when keys are coming afterwards. Also a (security related) bug, where the app tried to load images from arbitrary urls, has been fixed.#matrix #update

Hah! I fixed the codec problem. Now #FluffyChat on iOS can play ogg files (by converting it to caf before) and also FluffyChat now records with opus/ogg codecs if the platform supports it, which should be the case on all Android devices and newer iOS devices. Also tested with the WhatsApp bridge. Finally I can send voice messages to my friends on WhatsApp

About the authenticated media endpoints Matrix is using, I try to push a new release candidate of FluffyChat today which supports those and then release it as soon as possible. So hopefully nothing will break πŸ‘πŸ˜For server devs: FluffyChat will also look into the `unstable_features` for the "org.matrix.msc3916.stable" key. This way you can implement it on the server without the full v1.11 feature set#matrix #fluffychat #dev

@matrix FluffyChat should support it with latest version v1.22.0 which should be available in all appstores and sources. If anyone still finds a problem with it, please ping me here or in matrix

@phoenix_r_d yet another chat protocol πŸ™„ reminds me of: https://xkcd.com/927/

@raphaelrobert @phoenix_r_d That solves the federation-problem but let me guess you are going to implement a new c2s protocol instead of using Matrix, XMPP or whatever we already have?

@raphaelrobert @phoenix_r_d I knew it. πŸ™„ the typical story: you think you can do it better than everyone else. Increase fragmentation instead of improving what already is available. Spoiler: everyone is thinking the same and in the end you will re-invent the weel over and over again instead of bringing us forward. If you want to hide metadata, just help Matrix with encrypted state events. If you want MLS, help Matrix with their shift to it (already planned but lacks resources)

@raphaelrobert @phoenix_r_d or help xmpp. At its core it is very minimal and flexible. You can invent new ways there to hide metadata, share it with the community, write XEPs and try to help everyone, adopting it.There ARE opportunities here. Of course starting from scratch makes more fun, but in the end you will run into the same walls, the others already ran again. Then you are forced to do compromises. And others will say, that you did bad decisions and they need to start from scratch

@silverpill @raphaelrobert @phoenix_r_d mimi is not from the open source community but from the big vendors like Meta or Google. Don't expect something like activitypub from it 😝

Today I cleaned up the room creation view a little bit by hiding unimportant state events and implement a nicer room creation widget for #fluffychat#matrix

This is my first rcs chat with a friend using an iPhone. He didn't even know that his device now supports it. We had working typing indicators, read receipts and all common instant messaging features out of the box.I really wonder if RCS could replace WhatsApp soon for non-work related communication πŸ€” while work related stuff could be done by team-messengers like #matrix based clients

With #matrix and oidc I was thinking about offering an official FluffyChat server. It would have some benefits, right? I could have more control over the UX and would be kore independent. On the other hand it would require a lot of work and eval a public legal identity with either an expensive impressum service or publishing my physical address. Also a lot of legal paperwork. So I came up with a new idea. A new login UX flow where the user picks the homeserver from a trustworthy list

Currently just rough ideas. It would mean that there is no official default server anymore. For decentralization this would be great I guess. However, I wonder if this is still easy enough for normal users. The mastodon app started with a similar approach but then rolled back to have mastodon.social as a default server for simplicity. Would normal users be overwhelmed by "Picking a community" first before using the app? I think (hope) this is just a matter of a good UX design of this page
