@aral @delroth I have no clue what political afair is happening in NixOS community. Why can't technology be only about technology without politics?Especially in #FOSS, which is a public good - everyone benefits from it.

@aral @delroth I don't quite get it for this case.Technology is a tool. In this case - open-source software - non rivalrous public good. Some technology can be an inherently evil or political tool, i.e. weapons. But, an open-source operating system (Linux distribution) doesn't have an implicit purpose.NixOS can be used by all people for everyone's benefit. I don't see how this can be coupled to politics. It's pretty much a neutral tool (public good), and it's up to user how it's used.

@aral @delroth thanks. The example you provided - how centralization ideology influences and shapes technology - helped me understand the relationship. I get the theoretical part now.However. I fail to see how NixOS has political relationship to wrong ideologies.I am simple Linux user. And, as such NixOS's declarative approach to OS setup saved me lots of time.Previously, with imperative approach of system setup, I needed to redo many things from scratch in tedious way.

@fabio the most of today's technology is designed to scale,...But, non-linearly, where it becomes efficient with thousands (and more) of users on a single centralized cloud / SaaS.Rather than scaling via self-hosting, where groups / companies / projects would have their own (mini) instances running efficiently, even if they are of small or medium size yet.Things are moving towards global centralization...

@aral @sovtechfund because corporations don't deliver Linux as a desktop OS as a product / don't provide it to consumers.Corporations use Linux mostly for servers, or for their internal tools loaded with specific software to do a specific task.Often, the tasks, for which they use Linux loaded gadgets, require people to not be visually impaired due to nature of work itself and tools just enhance it, and therefore accessibility is irrelevant in their context of use.

@aral @nekohayo lots of FOSS seems to me to be technology-centric, rather that user-valie-centric.Software is designed around what (selected) tech can do, rather than making tech to do what user needs. With that focus in mind of programmers, FOSS often contains lots of options and features, but fails to let user do the most value task(s) efficiently (or at all).

@aral guess, the small web technology is not particularly exploitable corporate's "centralize and control it all mindset".

@aral @thejuicemedia similar as nuclear fusion.Big power, big potential,... depending on who controls it and how it's used, it is either a good tool (assistants) or means of mass destructions. However, nuclear technology seems to be much more under control, than the use of AI.

@aral I've got the benefit of being privileged to the level, that survival politics doesn't affect me (now/yet?). But, it's one that matters in the world. Some areas of politics are about survival, and past that, about well being not just survival, ... but some are an annoying game politics, distracting from what matters. I like to support survival matters in politics. But, I'm annoyed by game politics, because it distracts from what matters.

@aral it's sick. In all of the human history (I doubt it's modern world problem),...It's terrorism if it goes against citizens of colonial empires, overlords, oligarchs and such, otherwise it's a "legitimate" military operation pursued in the goal of "righteous self defense". Terror is everything, that turns a supposed to be safe place, into a possibly dangerous place, now untrusted regarding safety, where unpredictable violence can happen out of nothing, or due to "control maintenance".

@aral @dangillmor so much of (self)ownership, if tech is owned by corporations monopolies, who are owned by stakeholders with vested interest to control the world.Things like this confirm, that GNU/FSF vision matters a lot.
