Hi all!In time for the holidays, I released a 1.0 release of GTK-Mesgtastic-Client: https://gitlab.com/kop316/gtk-meshtastic-client/-/tags/1.0 . I decided on the 1.0 release as I think several folks have been using it (to success), and I have likewise been using it with success.

For anyone interested, I just tagged 1.1 of geoclue-stumbler: https://gitlab.com/kop316/geoclue-stumbler/-/tags/1.1Two notable improvements:- You now can pick the @beacondb URL automatically when choosing a submission URL- There is an option (opt-in) that shows you the locations of queued submissions overlayed on the map. When you click on it, it will tell you how many cell towers and WiFi APs were found there, as well as the time the submission was made.

@pine64 I bought the Pinephone Braveheart, was invited to get an early Pinephone Pro Development system, and used the Original Pinephone for a lot of Linux Mobile development. While this news is disappointing, I can't say I am surprised. The following article: https://drewdevault.com/2022/08/18/PINE64-let-us-down.html Echos my sentiment of Pine64. 1/5

@pine64 Pine64 does not invest in the software ecosystem, and need volunteers to do the work of adding support for their hardware. Despite this dependency, Pine64 severely mistreated their development community and burned a lot of goodwill for their phones. To me, that's sad to see, especially when I remember the excitement for the original Pinephone, and the community engagement they once had.2/5

@pine64 It also must be noted that Pine64 needs to do *something* about their quality control. I personally have had hardware failures on a Pinephone, Pinephone Pro, and a Rockpro64. I know several folks who have had similar issues. Good luck returning hardware failures. I paid for shipping to get my RockPro64 replaced in 2022, and I never heard back. It's just a sunk cost at this point. The broken Pinephone and Pinephone Pro just sit in a drawer now, collecting dust. 3/5

@pine64 IMHO is why the Pinephone Pro is in the state it's in, and why there was such low sales. I really expect the Pinephone, Pinetab, and Pinenote to have a similar fate. Once there was excitement for them, but for the most part; they sit in a drawer having not been turned on in months/years.4/5

@pine64 Really, Pine64 (the company) needs to take a very hard look in the mirror to determine what kind of company it wants to be. Right now, there's no way I could recommend any of their products knowing that there is no attempt at software support from the company, they haven't made any amends to fix how they treated their developer community, and the god awful quality control they have.5/5

I purchased a Oneplus 6T to try out @mobian on it. However, it turns out there are some of them that are T-Mobile branded, and to unlock it for Mobian, the official procedure is to first ask T-Mobile to SIM Unlock it then ask Oneplus to unlock the bootloader.Thankfully, someone figured out how to just reflash the entire phone so you can skip both of those steps! The process is here: https://www.xda-developers.com/t-mobile-oneplus-6t-international-without-unlocked-bootloader/You have to run Windows bare metal for it to work (I tried a VM, it didn't work).

Some initial observations running @mobian Trixie on a Oneplus 6T:- To make sure I had the most up to date Android (OxygenOS 11.1.2.2) was kind of a pain, I documented how I did it here: https://fosstodon.org/@kop316/115251705735544610- GPS works extremely well. With Satellite-GTK, I get a lock inside 2 seconds consistantly.- There seems to be an issue receiving MMS after it has been on for a while, I haven't tracked down why- Visual Voicemail worked out of the box with T-Mobile USA.1/3

- I had to install `81voltd` for VoLTE to work, but it works for incoming and outgoing calls on T-Mobile USA.- Audio EDIT works when I do what the wiki says to do.- On it took 13 hours to go from from 100% to 20%. It is the original battery. Mobian has auto suspend, I will try with idle only next.- While the Oneplus 6 has a 3.5 mm Jack, the Oneplus 6T does not.- Neither the Oneplus 6/6T have an SD card reader.- The OLED screen is really nice.- Both cameras have a color tint to them.2/3

- VoLTE seems to be hit and miss. It seems that I can talk and the other person can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I also have to call several times for it to work.Overall, I think if I can solve the MMS and Call issues, this is a strong contender for a daily driver. This at least solves almost all of the issues I was worried about if my Librem5 went belly up for some reason. Also, to the folks who have been working on making this work, thank you very much for that work!3/3

So unfortunately, device audio on both the OnePlus 6 and 6T is very unreliable with the speaker, earpiece, and mic on Phosh. Hopefuly I can look into it within the next few days/weeks, as the phone works wonderfully otherwise.I have also noticed the camera is finicky as to whether it wants to show up too.

Ok, so I tracked down the MMS issue, it is related to suspend. It seems that when the modem comes out of suspend, it will report that it has internet connectivity, but it really doesn't. The workaround is to toggle the cell function on and off. If I disable suspend, MMS works fine.I am curious as to how suspend affects battery life, as if I can get away with not suspending and having a decent battery life, it isn't a problem.

If anyone has a Oneplus 6/6T running @mobian , I would appreciate some confirmation of a result I got. By default, the power savings setting auto-suspends the phone (1 minute for battery, 15 minutes for line power). With that setting, I got ~12-14 hours on battery idle (I checked this twice). However, when I *disabled* it (so no suspend at all), I got *29* hours on battery idle. I have only tested no suspending at all once, and I will test again. Does anyone else get similar results?

@mobian Ok, there is no doubt disabling auto suspend has a very positive effect on the battery. After 4 hours being unplugged and left alone, I am at 88%EDIT: I can confirm similar behavior on the Oneplus 6. I left it idle overnight (8ish hours) without auto-suspend, it went from 95% to 74%. This was with a SIM card inserted connected to 4G amd connected to WiFi.

@linmob @Liberux I saw this, and I also saw the jobs listing they added. TBH, I was confused on why they said they required a PhD for the work they were looking to do. None of it seemed like something you needed a PhD for?
