If you're keeping up with what's happening I can only recommend you find yourself a non-western source of events. Or more than one.I've been reading both the CNN and Aljazeera live timelines and the difference in coverage is very apparent.Generally Aljazeera seems less prone to publishing claims or comments from either country without some basic-ass verification of reality, or by giving more context.CNN is somewhat critical of some things Israel does, but largely replicates their narrative (the guardian felt like straight up Netanjahu propaganda...) Anyway, if your take away from all this is to not keep up with events, that's also fair

People are still upset about systemd in 2025?!With wayland I kiinda get why people dont like it, lots of stuff didn't work at first (like screensharing), and its easy to project other frustrations on that. But systemd? Maybe I'm showing my (lack of) age because systemd has kinda always been a part of my linux systems. And I dont remember the 1-2 times i had to touch a debian 6 or upstart ubuntu to be particularly enjoyable activities either. And I especially don't see how you'd have the energy to be relentlessly arguing about an init system for over a decade.

currently nix has an async io model shoved into a sync runtime, and an async model that can't decide whether it's push or pull😭

Introducing the &| (and-or) operator to my programming language which, on comparisons performed in a loop starts as an AND, but on successive failures lowers its expectations and become an OR instead

I wish there was a Rust-type-system-y way for a type with a generic T to have (as an example) two Debug implementations, one for the case that T: Debug and one for when T does not in fact debug. It is kind of a niche problem and I only run into it like once a year. There's some ancient docs that talk about how the specialization feature will fix this but I think that effort has been abandoned due to unsoundness? :akko_badday: I'm curious if anyone #onhere runs has the same cursed problems and if you found a solution you can live with :akko_thonk:

I guess the easy way is to just enforce T: Debug but I think I will definitely have some Ts that won't be :akko_sad:
