what i think about sometimes is how self-hosting actually makes my stuff less likely to survive if i suddenly die. like if i was just keeping a site on neocities for free or w/e it would likely stay up, but on my own vps it would last a few months then go offline

data sovereignty is admirable -- i really do like the idea of long-lasting and portable data stores -- but ultimately i still think it falls to a more communal, or institutional, hosting basis to keep any sense of memory or to think further ahead than a decade or two
