@chu re dark age, I remember very similar convo with my in law who are Welsh "how come high Welsh disappear?", they said it is because when you have a limited amount of speakers, the diversity will eventually drop as local variation are not being refreshed by other community, so sort of went through bottle neck"...Chinese culture is populous and with big numbers of variety to start with so we still got some left after waves of war torn "dark age " but lot of Chinese cultures are lost

@stux countries and borders are the social way Homo Sapiens resolve the territory dispute that inevitably came as other social animals do too. take lions, chimpanzee, rabbit or deers all have their roar, fight and sneer. As a migrant myself in the UK I am actually quite grateful and surprised that the level of discrimination and aggression toward us has been kept at such a low level for so long.
