I really like the stories our friends at #MIT wrote about #W3C today 💚> After 28 years of being hosted collectively at MIT and three other international host organizations, the crusaders for web standards have become their own entity. > Around the time of W3C's inception, the buzz around the "internet," "browsers," and the "web" was so loud it was nearly deafening.> Berners-Lee’s "greatest act of all" is something he "didn't do:" require fees for patents.https://news.mit.edu/2023/world-wide-web-consortium-is-now-public-interest-nonprofit-organization-0202

@ondra @boldewyn oh yeah, maybe we read the article too quickly and *thought* they linked back to W3Cx our online course platform with EdX which does have the option to be awarded a certificate upon completion. ... but you're right, it's not the case. @w3c

I documented my process to select a firm to work with us to #redesign the @w3c website. From writing the RFP, evaluating the bids, awarding the project to @simonrjones and planning the work(*).It's all there in public slides."W3C Website redesign:vendor selection & plan"https://www.w3.org/Press/slides/202002-website-redesign/(*) the covid-19 outbreak put a serious dent in our timeline, but I'm pretty pretty sure it was overambitious by far, to begin with!

Has the #web changed your life? In what way(s)?Are there features that are particularly life-saving, or very convenient to you? (e.g., WebRTC for live videoconferencing, or Web Payments API for ecommerce, etc.)I want to write a @w3c article at the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the release of the World Wide Web into the public domain, for general use and at no cost, by CERN on 30 April 1993.Any insight from the fediverse to complement our own research is welcome! Thanks in advance! <3

A core principle that all #W3C work group must follow is to allow access across disabilities, country borders, and time.It hinges mainly on excellent minuting and record-keeping, on W3C's persistence policy (that's why the number of resources we put on the web is so huge). This allows all participants –present and future– and observers to participate and understand the rationale and origins of decisions, and to guarantee long-lived access to published documents.https://www.w3.org/2023/Process-20230612/#tooling

#CSS level 1 by @bert & H&kon became a @w3c Recommendation 27 years ago🎉#OnThisDay in 1996, a foundational aspect of the web became a standard!> CSS1 allows authors and readers to attach style to HTML documents [that] is human readable and writable.> One of the fundamental features of CSS is that style sheets cascade; authors can attach a preferred style sheet, while the reader may have a personal style sheet to adjust for human or technological handicaps.#css #w3chttps://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS1-961217
