It's one of the first ones I've seen that finds a strong correlation between #vaccination status and #LongCovid symptoms. @Teri_Kanefield The frustrating thing about US civil law is that it is specifically designed to *not punish* parties found responsible for causing harm. Fox isn’t even going to feel this payout, and they get to go on doing exactly what they did to be found liable in the first place, knowing that it’s worth the cost of subsequent payouts to keep their viewership.

@edgeoforever @Teri_Kanefield I understand that, but to the average observer, it feels like Fox is getting off nearly scot-free and will be able to continue with impunity the malfeasance that got it sued. That makes it feel very much like it doesn’t matter if Fox uses its platform to destroy American democracy — they’ll just sign a check, continue raking in the profits, and laugh all the way to the bank.

@Teri_Kanefield @edgeoforever Educated to what extent? I have multiple graduate degrees, but everything I know about civil law comes from stuff I find on the internet. Does every American need to go to law school in order for democracy to have a chance?

@Teri_Kanefield @icfy95 @edgeoforever I think what a lot of people have trouble with is the fact that Fox doesn’t have to admit any wrongdoing and is free to continue telling lies that cause damage as long as they are willing to pay those damages going forward. It means that conduct that would absolutely ruin the rest of us is of negligible consequence to Fox, and they’re free to keep doing it.

What is less understandable is that Fox is under no obligation to amend its conduct in response to this legal action. It can *continue to deliberately inflict harm* as long as its targets don’t have as much means to seek redress as Fox has to just write off its harmful actions.
