@Phil @dangillmor Are you going to cite an actual example or is your intent just to make unverifiable claims so you can't be easily disproven. We don't need chaos agents on Mastodon, if you have a point, logic, or facts then please contribute. Otherwise your time would be better served on Truth Social.

@penguin42 @neil Also from an environmental standpoint, allowing forest to recover naturally is far more beneficial than just mass planting a single (or a couple) species that will then out compete any other type of indigenous plants in the area.If you want to plant trees you're probably better off contacting the arbor society. There's a lot of pushback against "Carbon Offsets" now as they either aren't as effective as advertised or in some cases there's some intentional manipulation of the numbers and selling the same offset multiple times.I personally really like the suggestion from @dentangle that you're better off donating to lobbying groups/organizations that can have an effect on curbing the pollution being done by major corporations. As anything we're likely to product is less than a statistical anomaly to the amount of pollution they are capable of, and any benefit we return can easily become swamped by an increase in their damage.

@fcktheworld587 @AbbyFla The biggest issue with any extra terrestrial lifeforms visiting earth is that they would most likely not even recognize humans much at all, and why would they prioritized us over other lifeforms on earth. Our success or demise would be largely left to chance with as much care we pay insects when doing yardwork. It's only our egos that makes us think they would want to be our saviour or nemesis. We would just be one of many lifeforms for them to interact with. Also another though experiment is why would they travel on "land". Wouldn't our oceans comprise a much larger percent of the surface of the planet both in width and depth with a larger variety of lifeforms. It's possible that they would spend most their time on earth in places unaccessible to humans and never even have to come in contact with us.

When I worked retail, the point was always made that Walmart had done studies which proved that only 20% or loss came from shoplifting with about 40% coming from the employees and the other 40% being from mismanagment. So it seemed weird to me that it was Walmart that seemed to be leading the cries about retail crime theft. But then I read an article where the CEO of Lowes stated he though the whole issue was self inflicted as he advoided the issue by keeping up their salesforce numbers. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/lowes-ceo-says-the-solution-to-rising-theft-is-clear-hire-and-train-more-workers/ar-AA1gL1oAWhich makes me wonder if it's just as much if not more companies like Walmart are trying to do away with almost their entire staff and trying to put the onus of protecting their inventory on local and state legislation with the Republicans taking advantage of the FUD that being created in the process.@futurebird @mybarkingdogs
