       @fitheach as far as i remember most was at "settings". from the phone, not needing to open individual apps. where you need a goggle account: to use the playstore. there is also f-droid which has apps, but not too many and no big ones.whether you can safe your contacts without Google depends on the phone (i can't, safely). and of course the rest depends on your preferences. many people use the Google cloud to back-up their data.
