@tejr these documents being perceived "best practice" in the second group, or even well adopted in other projects, doesn't mean it's right for your group.Collaborate with these people, take the products you can get, but keep governance a slave to the project, a chore conducted by the core members, rather than importing specialists from outside.MBAs are bad at running companies in a soulful way. So too are outside governance people at running your community but don't partake in the project.

Seeing some throwaway quote from an IRC chat as the install instructions (in LUG slides) gave me a good chortle on the tube. This guy also writes "(if you're into that... Tom isn't)" every single time docker is mentioned.

@hugh @eloy I am likely to peer into https://portal.phreaknet.org/ at somepoint. If rLab can set up some rack space (colo goes here?) then I'd be super happy to host this.Otherwise I have some ATAs that could bring in maybe 4 lines.

@Nimbius666 milsim larping.military commands have to respond to changes in the global political picture. cybersecurity people just pretend they do, likewise with challenge coins, etc

@Nimbius666 really, it's remarkable how many people in the broader tech world proclaim a distaste for military might but then go on to co-opt their practices, customs, language.Same as people do with heavy handed policing, while enforcing opaque T&S policies, centering enforcement over project outcomes, and building complex structures of surveillance and tracking.

@lynn you might have already gone down this path, but if it's built on QMK, then it's built on GPL. As a user, they should be obligated to provide you the source code and also any build scripts required to compile it.Do you believe the firmware is based on QMK? If so, you should email their legal department to get a source code archive that corresponds to your product and version.

@lynn Maybe I misunderstand - I don't think the PR matters. If the hardware vendor sold you a product that uses QMK as a baseline, they are obligated to include the complete source code to users (ie, you). There is no obligation for them to upstream it to QMK-the-project, and it not being in upstream doesn't mean they do not need to provide it.If they have a firmware based on QMK and they have added specific features like wireless stuff, you're still covered, including the new feature code.

@eloy I think what it means is that previously you could expect your BOFHs to be involved in every aspect of computing at your company. The IT dept that ran the helldesk would also be setting and designing security policy. Now, IT has become more logistical - provision and onboarding - with separate Chief Information Security Officers now heading departments that recruit specialist "cybersecurity" people who rarely overlap with IT.Even more so with how much is in the cloud and not the office.

Palestine Action proscription has been ruled unlawful, but remains proscribed until at least a further hearing is completed, as well as any govt appeal.I wonder how many people have been prosecuted for membership/support.
