Another late night at work. I need to do some maintenance on our AoIP network infrastructure, but first our overnight person needs to record a couple of hours’ worth of talk breaks into the system. She’s a pro, so I’m happy to sit in another studio and watch TV while she knocks that out.

@Ricardus Kentucky resident here. Most folks outside of KY don’t understand the political dynamic. There were in fact up until a year or two ago more registered D than R in the state, but that doesn’t mean those registered D weren’t very conservative. Local races were all on the D ticket and frequently resolved in the primaries, which are closed in KY. Many of these conservative D voters were reliable R voters for statewide/fed offices. No red flags for people who live here

@Ricardus I’m just saying (along with several local journalists working the political beat in KY) that the widespread narrative of irregularities in McConnell’s 2020 election appears unfounded. Doesn’t mean modern R’s play by the rules by any stretch, but all the attention on this race is distracting from real problems. KY is a *very* red state and people actually vote for this guy. I never have, but that’s the nature of elections for you.

@Ricardus Thats why I followed you! Nerds have to stick together. I will say that broadcast audio is a way different beast than the stuff you’ll find in recording studios or live venues.

@tracketpacer whatever broadcast frame that was in the buffer when the computer went to sleep was repeatedly sent to the network at maximum tilt and slowed the entire segment to a crawl

Also, Threads has literally millions of users and lots of what and who you miss about That Other Place went there. Existing fediverse denizens will get access to that without needing to join any other social platform. Why would you want to deny that to anyone?

There is a huge reckoning coming to Mastodon and the larger fediverse community when users realize that instance admins are making editorial decisions for *all* their users based not on the content of the posts coming from places but because the admins simply don’t like who runs the places. That’s messed up.
