Google music is stopping/moving to youtube. I bought some music there a long time ago, because:1. I already had a Google account.2. I sometimes want to pay artists for their work. Now it's stopping I can download my music through "Google Take-out". I bought only three albums on there (I think, it's hard to verify), this is what take-out gives me, one zip file with all the .mp3's, no sub folders, no album art.

@Gina I often block YouTube (and some other sites) in my hosts file during working hours (to maintain some productivity). My browser gives a very clear error when I do this and still try to visit youtube. Some other sites however (looking at you jukebox.today) don't show a error but just get stuck in a perpeptual loading loop. This took me longer then 30 min to solve, but that's not the worst. It happened twice and took me just as long to figure out the second time. 🤦‍♂️

@TheGibson @djsundog @ajroach42 @Orwelldonesteak @z @requiem @nomad @Killab33z_OG This sounds really cool! What would be the use case? File sharing? Hidden websites?

@cjd If you force someone to wear a seatbelt and then they get into one of the very rare crashes where they would have been better off not wearing a seatbelt, is that then your fault? Or did you simply force them into making the clearly better choice?Or inverted. If you tell someone not to waste their money on a lottery ticket, and that turns out to be the winning ticket, was that then bad advice?

@cjd Seatbelts were introduced in 1950, so they are not 100 years old yet. Vaccines however have been around since 1800 (and it's precursor, variolation, since around 1000).How do you prove the efficacy of seatbelts? How is that procedure different from the way you prove the efficacy of vaccines?

I'm looking for a resource that is similar to a privacy toolkit for consumers but that is focused on small website owners. I'm hoping for something that will for example tell you about Matomo as alternative to Google Analytics. That will tell you how to avoid placing Facebook tracking pixels and how to spot your site using other resources (like fonts and libraries) that track your users. Maybe even recommend some static-site systems?Does anyone know of something like that? :boost_ok:

I had this thought. For almost every insane conspiracy (Gates implanting microchips) there is a real "conspiracy" going on (Gates working to keep vaccines under patents, Gates laundering his reputation). What if we mimick those conspiracy sites, infiltrate the telegram groups, share the "real" conspiracies and eventually convert them to the left? That last step seems like a big jump, but I don't think it is. They are dissatisfied with the status-quo, but have been misled about the causes.

I've had discussions on Facebook, with people I know, about articles they shared. This one example I have in mind, they claimed a media personality (in the Netherlands) was corrupt. This wasn't supported by the text of the article they were sharing. The claim the article made was different. The article (from a shoddy conspiracy website) was basing it's claim on a story by a reputable site. This article did not support the conclusions in the shoddy one either. That's like 3 degrees of lies.

I'm saying this to highlight the need to actually mimick the format that is being used. To get into that conspiratorial frame and trick them into paying attention to the truth. If you simply share a article of, say, The Intercept, they won't pay attention to it, because it's not clickbaity enough, too complex and doesn't fit with what they expect.I don't know that it's EVER possible to change someones mind about conspiracies, but it seems to me like this could work.

The real conspiracies are so much more interesting too, and maybe this is subjective, but they show you something about the real world. A world that does not exist in black and white, but has people in it that are more often incompetent or greedy, but not always capital-G good or capital E Evil.Bad things happen because we have bad systems. We can change the systems. There is no cabal of shady people pulling the strings, the people in power are not competent enough to make that happen.

@sean I like that! But it's not exactly what I'm thinking of. The format is perfect, and that is definitely something I would need to practice. Imo two crucial parts are missing here, people love conspiracies because:- They are dissatisfied with the world and the conspiracy explains the cause- They want to be smarter then "the sheeple"These all seem to explain the "normie truth" in a conspiracy way. The message itself should be a leftist take basically.

@urusan You mean that this would be the (false) conspiracy someone could spread if they wanted to get the anti-vaxxers to vaccinate themselves?Just like with the recent mask wearing example (anti-maskers masking up because vaccinated people shed RNA) it may work. But that's getting people to do the right thing for the wrong reason. I'd prefer to get people to do the right thing (but not necessarily the opposite of what they were doing before) for the right reason.

@urusan I think you may have a chance of getting someone to change their mind on _why_ Bill Gates is a asshole. But you will have a much harder time changing their opinion 180°, they are too invested for that.If you want a anti-vaxxer to get vaccinated, you may have to start by agreeing with them that big pharma has some big problems. (See for example the opioid crisis, Shkreli price hikes, insulin pumps with the printer ink business model) Way before you start on vaccines.

@mansr @alienghic It's not thát hard to say right. The right strongly identifies with the traditional gender roles, LGBTQI people show that these are not fixed or required. This undermines the right's worldview. The right needs a scapegoat, someone to fear, someone to blame, someone to "other". Currently that is (amongst others) LGBTQI people.Children's books about this subject will teach kids to empathise with, allow them to identify as, and normalizes LGBTQI people. This takes power away from the right, because it's much harder to scapegoat someone you know. There is probably more, but I think this is a good starting point.

@alienghic @mansr Sorry, I don't mean to be pedantic, maybe I just misunderstand you. I think I answered the "why". The "how" of book banning is through legislation, right? The "why" is because LGBTQI people, just by existing, are a threat to the worldview the right/ the church is pushing. They show that the traditional gender roles are limiting for both women ánd men. And that we have freedom to break with them, if we wish. The books are banned because the books explain what it's like to be LGBTQI, and knowing about something, makes it harder for someone to convince you it's bad.If you want to convince someone to act against their own interest, it will be a lot easier if they don't know the truth.

@mansr @alienghic If I understand you correctly, what you are asking is: "why are they (Christians) so hell-bent on enforcing their version of old-fashioned Christian norms?". This feels a little like asking why bakers bake so many breads. If they wouldn't enforce those Christian norms, would they even be Christians? But I can still suggest some reasons: because they think it's the right thing to do, according to their interpretation of the bible? Because it gives them power over others? Because they've been told by people before them this is how it should be?But more generally, rules are important in religions. Very few religions without some kind of restrictive rules have survived. Imagine there is a religion, that says you are free to do what feels good, where is the urgency in passing that on go your kids? Now a religion where you go to hell if you don't follow the rules, there's some stakes to do it right, that gets passed on through the ages.
