I still can't quite get my head around this issue. No one goes into a cost analysis of ISP networks (maybe because ISPs don't seem to know how to do cost analysis themselves) nor suggest how ISPs could charge customers in a fair and realistic way. Can bandwidth be regarded as a commodity? Why are networks engineered in a way that blacklisting known bandwidth heavy services is the solution to problems? Shouldn't network responses be more dynamic that a hand curated blacklist? I feel like people aren't defining the problem right. I do worry about ISPs getting lobbied to stifle P2P traffic. I'd love a decentralized network myself, and would be in favor of adding pricing which charges centralized actors more just for that end. Being for or against net neutrality seems to address none of the real issues, though I do agree what big tech wants is probably not good for the rest of us.

@cinnabarowl@tube.privacytools.io Sorry to burst your progressive bubble, but web apps and the web stack is full of rot, is not a functional solution on mobile, and all but controlled by google due to their domination of market and development. They have come to die.

@innesford The archwiki, literally the terminal "man" command (more useful than you may think; press / to search), and web searching seems to be how it goes. Don't mean to speak for Luke though.

@avit I've grown to hate that artificial network effect. The algorithms on those sites that navigate their networks for you exist to keep you consuming drivel or otherwise manipulate you. A more neutral, distributed network effect can happen through recommendations. A simple "recommended content" page on your website that points visitors elsewhere is an example of that. Some sites can primarily function to aggregate links even. Just don't let them turn in to another reddit.

@jimsy_pickles @ttkk Some people say this and I'm never sure where they're coming from. Bitchute works great. The only big thing that needs work is their search functionality, though I don't use that much anyway. That and the commenting system, of which they're making their own to replace disqus as we speak.
