If you're an ally, please don't limit your allyship to shouting "arm the queers!" and leaving it at that. Some of us can't be armed, and some of us don't want to have anything to do with guns.Instead, stand with us. Build community with us. Stick up for us if one of your buddies makes a homophobic comment. Go with us if we're afraid to use a public bathroom alone. Make sure that we're housed and fed. Teach us first aid and self-defense. Protest alongside us. Challenge the hate that's being spread by the media. Cut off your bigoted friends and relatives who spout hate and refuse to change. Learn about how LGBTphobia intersects with racism, misogyny, classism, and ableism. Don't let this moment became another forgotten headline. Don't leave us to face this alone.

I wonder if mainstream news media are afraid to openly promote Mastodon by name because they know they can't "game the system" on here. A bigshot CNN reporter would, theoretically, have the same reach as a small, indie press reporter. For the first time, they'd have to genuinely interact with and cultivate their audience if they want the same reach here as they do on other social media sites. Plus, the quality of their reporting would then be compared to the indie presses, which could either work for or against them in a way that wasn't nearly as glaring on the birdsite.

@gallowswitch My hot take is that more occultists and witches should create indie physical media (books, pamphlets, zines, art, etc). There's nothing wrong with digital! I just think there are more opportunities to weave magick into physical media if you're not already tech-savvy. Plus, I love indie writing and art!
