@kyle My daughter started (and so far has ended) with Scratch. She loved the idea of dragging items around on the screen to make an interactive animation. Programming in Scratch feels like playing a game, which is not the same as regular text based languages. If I was going beyond Scratch I'd consider Python or TypeScript. Personally I'd lean towards TypeScript because you can use that easily to code interactive websites, which can also be fun.

@stux I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who thinks this country is full of lunatics.

@stux But will the other parties really allow Wilders into a cabinet?

@stux What I mean is that Wilders doesn't have enough seats to form a government and who would allow him in a coalition?

@stux My theory is that most Trump voters are well aware of who they are voting for. They want a rural, white supremacist theocracy and are well aware that they need a dictatorship to keep that in power.

So here I am in 2024. Unemployed but somehow still hopeful. I have two sets of skills:a. Backend web developer (AWS/PHP/Python/MySQL/Node.js)b. XR developer (Unity/C#/Blender/SVG/Three.js)Whenever I apply for a backend web developer job there are at least 100 other applicants according to LinkedIn.I see hardly any XR jobs.Still, my hope is in #VR / #XR. Web development has become an oversubscribed industry.XR is still up and coming. Come on 2024: I'm here for you!#FediHire

@stux Surprised to see you parroting anti-China lines from the right wing media. Unfollowing.

Once Apple has released a product in any category, journalists routinely claim that any new product in the same category must be an Apple imitation. Especially if the product is from a Chinese company.Fortunately if you go past the headline and lede you can find a lot of interesting details about this new product which is definitely not an Apple knock off. It is, however, part of what I expect will be a flood of more reasonably priced headsets with 4K-per-eye displays.https://www.uploadvr.com/play-for-dream-mr-xr2-plus-gen-2-headset/

It may be possible in fact that Apple will be imitating this design in some ways with their more affordable VR headset expected in 2025, which is rumoured to license a Chinese high resolution VR display.

@dangillmor I use Threads, Mastodon, Bluesky, LinkedIn and X-Twitter for my astronomy posts.Sadly I still get the biggest response on X-Twitter. Mastodon has been slowly rising but is still far behind. Why I can only speculate.

@GrahamDowns @futurebird @dangillmor I do use full text search and often use hashtags but I've never noticed that it has made any difference.Personally I think the main difference is just that there are a lot more people on X-Twitter with an interest in galactic cartography than on Mastodon.I hope that will change eventually.
